part 18

i sit next to lexis body on the hospital bed holding her hand. they've took the bullet out of her now and she's been sleeping for over an hour now

i've been here for 5 hours waiting for her to wake up, i just want to talk to her

i don't want her to die, she's my best friend, she's my everything, even though i am mad at her, she's all i have right now

"you scared?" i ask

"not at all" he said, "i'll see my mom and sister" he smiled

"i'll at least know that i died saving my best friend" he said

my tears got heavier, "you mean so much to me"

he smiled, "stay with joey, he'll protect you from everything"

i smile, "i brought you something" i dig in my pocket

i took out a sponge bob sticker he gave me, he laughed, i put it on his shirt, "look we're matching now" i show him the one i was wearing

he chuckles, "see you later elena"

"see you later jeremy"

i squeeze lexis hand and begin crying, i cant have her leave me, she's the only person that i can talk to, relate too, i need her

this is all my fault. i should've gone to their place sooner, i couldn't stopped all this. i'm the reason joeys like this, the reason jeremiah is scared of life, we're all falling apart

"ma'am"

i look up at the nurse who's walked in with a clipboard in her hand, "yes?"

"we'll need lexi here for another few days, she'll be needing some rest, do you have anyone to pick you up?" she looks at her board then back at me

"i have to leave?" i question

she presses her lips together nodding slowly

i let go of lexis hand and stand from the chair, "okay, can you please call me when she wakes up"

"of course" the nurse smiles

i look back at lexi once more time before leaving the room

joey looks at me with a frown, "i wish this didn't happen"

"i lost my best friend joey" i bite my bottom lip

he pulls me in his chest rubbing my back with his hand, "it's okay baby"

i hug him back and take a deep breath, the power he has over me is crazy. he makes me feel so safe around him, his hugs even make me feel better

i shake my head in his chest, "i'm going to miss him so much"

he kisses my head, "me too princess"

i get into ethans car and take a deep breath. it's crazy how so much has changed since that day, the day i last saw my best friend
