Chapter 13 John is sick

Ricky pov

We ran though the doors of the ER. Bella sat in the waiting room while I went to the front desk. Excuse me my name is Richard Underwood I said. I am looking for my son John Underwood I told her . alright he is in the room down the haul she told me. Thank you I told her. Come on Bella I said to her as I ran out of the door. She quickly followed me . just as we where about to go and see John we read a sign on the door that said family members of patients are the only people allowed beyond this point . Oh I'm sorry Bella I said to her. No Ricky there's no need to be sorry . I totally understand . I will just go and wait back in the waiting room Bella told me . Thank you Bella I really appreciate it I told her. I'm sorry that our date ended this way . I promise I'll make it up to you I told her . I'm sorry that our date turned out this way too she said. I hope that John will be alright she said to me as she left . So do I . She waved to me as she walked down the Hall. As I entered John,s hospital room I could hear that sound of him crying . My heart dropped. Hey mom Hey dad I said to them. Hi Ricky my mom said. I'm so sorry son it's all my fault my mom told me as tears came down her face . No mom its not your fault . It's not anyone's fault I told her I gave her a hug. Where is he ? I asked her . I walk over to the infant sized bad and lifted John up into my arms . hey buddy I said to him. Shsh it's okay . You're alright . Daddy's right here I said to him. I gently swayed him side to side to help to calm him down . Unfortunately despite my best efforts I didn't seem to be working . I sat down in the rocking chair that's was in the room . So has the doctor come to talk to you guys yet ? I asked my parents as I slowly rocked john back and forth. Not yet my mom said . John continued crying. Daddy's right here little man I said to him as he rested has had on my shoulder . I'm so sorry Ricky my mom said . At first I thought that John was just fussy because he was missing you my mom told me . But then when your dad and I realized that he was sick we both panicked my mom told me . I know , I know mom I said . Listen there is no need to explain it to me I told them. I know that it's not your fault and I don't blame either of you at all . Actually I want to thank you guys for being there to take care of John when I couldn't be I told them . I love you guys so much I told them . To be honest with both of you there's no one else that I can imagine myself feeling comfortable with having them look after John for me especially when he is sick I told them . I'm so glad that I have you guys in my life to help me I told them. I'm so glad that you guys on my foster parents I told them . I think that now would it be a good time to tell you guys that I don't consider you to be my foster parents I told them. You guys now because of many reasons . I don't want to label you as being my foster parents I told them. You are my parents and that's it I told them . I don't know what I would ever do without you guys I told them . My name is doctor spike she introduced herself to us . This must be little John she said turning towards my crying son. Yes it is I answered her . What is your name ? She asked me . My name is Richard underwood but you can call me Ricky I said . Who are you in relation to John ? She asked me. John underwood is my son I said to her . I am his father I told her . Oh Wow my apologies but I thought you were his older brother she told me . You look so young she said to me . If you don't mind me asking you Ricky how old are you ? I'm 16 years old I told her . I know, I know its a long story and to be honest I don't really want to talk about it I told her. all I want to do is to discuss the health of my son I told her . Yes Mr underwood of course she continued . Alright well I'm sure as you know John has an extremely high fever she told me. Yes I said . She continued talking . When he first arrived we gave him an ice cold bath and the medication to help bring his body temperature down he told me. Alright acknowledging what had been said to me . Now we are going to keep him in the hospital until his body temperature is back to normal she told me . Unfortunately only one person can stay with John overnight she explained to us . My mom and dad looked at me . We will go home and well be back as early as possible tomorrow my mom told me . Alright that sounds good I said to them . first can you guys stay with John for a bit? I need to go talk to Bella and make a few phone calls I told them. Of course sweetie my mom said . I got up from the rocking chair and handed John to my dad . Thanks guys I said . I love you John . Daddy will be back soon I told him as I left him with my parents . Bella approached me as she saw me coming out of John's hospital room. How is he ? She asked me . He's really fussy told her. The doctor told me that when he first to the hospital they gave him a cold bath and some medication to help his fever come down I told her . I am going to stay here tonight so that I can be here with John I told her. Here is some money to pay for a taxi to take you home I said pulling out my wallet. Alright Ricky but please you don't have to pay for the taxi she told me . Bella I know that I don't have to pay for the taxi to take you home but I want to alright I told her . Alright if you insist thank you she said to me as she took the cash from my hand . We shared a quick kiss before she left . After she left the waiting room to go home I made two quick phone calls to the butcher shop and my school . I explained to both of them the situation with John . They were extremely understanding. I could hear John crying as I walked down the hall and went back into his room . hey buddy I said to john as I lifted him out of my father's arms . Alright I love you guys thank you so much I will see you tomorrow I told them and give them a hug each before they left. Shsh it's alright little man daddy's right here for you I said. I did the best I could to soothe him . After a while I finally realized that he needed to be changed . I stood up and gently laid him down on the changing table that was provided . It's okay daddy is going to fix it I told him as I got him undressed . When I took off his diaper I saw that he had been bleeding . Now I understand why he was so fussy. I immediately pressed the call button and a nurse came running in . What's wrong ? She asked me . I don't know . He was really fussy and then I realized he needed a diaper change . When I opened the diaper he was bleeding I said in a panic . Tears run down my face . Alright, alright I'm going to have to ask you to pack up a little bit so I can take a look at him she told me. Okay I said. I reluctantly backed away from the change table my son was lying on . I broke my heart to know that there is nothing that I could do to make any and all of his pain go away I thought to myself as I continued crying . Alright we need to get a blood test for John I heard the nurse say to me . What does that mean? I asked her. Can I go with him when he gets the blood test done ? I asked her. Yes you can she answered me. But come on we have to hurry she told me . I quickly got up and followed the nurse who had John carefully cradled in her arms .
