Guidance

Ricky pov

The worst part of the day was always when I had to drop John off at the church Nursery. As I got out of the car and lifted John out of his car seat and into my arms I prepared myself for the daily fit that I knew John would get into. I lifted John his car seat. He started crying as soon as we started walking to the entrance. You're alright buddy I say to him. I know, I know you don't want me to leave you I said to him. I have to go to school and work I said to him. Alright little man daddy love you so much . I'll be back soon I said to him as I placed him in the arms of the nursery lady. Like usual I went through the first half of my day trying to focus on my work and worrying about how John was doing . After my lunch break I went to my next class . I was listening to a lecture about ancient history. My teacher was interrupted I knock on the door . He stopped talking to us and went to answer the door. Hello im one of the new guidance counselors a middle-aged woman said to him. Hello he introduced himself. May I please speak with Richard underwood ? She asked him. My heart started racing as soon as I heard my name. Yes of course you can give me one moment he said to her. Ricky could you please come here ? I was asked . Yes sir I'll be right there I said to him if I got up and grabbed my bag. Hello Richard I'm the new guidance counselor the woman said to me.would you please come with me? She asked a friendly manner . Yes of course I responded and followed her down the hall . By the way I prefer to be called Ricky I told her as she led me into her office . My apologies Ricky she corrected herself . It's no problem I told her . She shut the door to the office as soon as we were both inside . Ricky please take a seat make yourself comfortable she told me. If you don't mind me asking what's this about? I questioned her . Don't worry Ricky you are not in trouble or anything she said to me. A wave of relief went over me. Now is 16 years old am I correct? She asked me. Yes I am I answered her. Grade 10? That's right I said. I have looked at your school records you get very good grades she said to me . However Ricky I'm a little concerned because there has been a drop and your marks recently she told me. I'm in foster care because my father sexually abused me as a child I explained to her. A look of surprise and sympathy spread across if face. Anyway as a result of my sexual abuse I was having indiscriminate sex with a bunch of girls I said. This past summer my life completely changed . It all started one night at band camp . Basically what happened was a makeout session went too far I said. Anyway she got pregnant and I have a son I told her. There is something else you should know I said. A few days ago john's mother dropped him off on my doorstep and left . She told me that she could no longer deal with the pressure of being a teenage mother I told her as tears came streaming down my face. Oh Ricky I'm so sorry to hear about all of this she said to me. I don't understand I said . what do you mean by options? I asked her. Well there is parenting classes in the community she said . There is a credit program that you can take so that you can take less credits now and graduate a little bit later than everyone else he told me.
