We tried to close the door quietly, we really did. But the crazy old woman had the hearing of a bat. Before the door could even click she was in the doorway with her hands on her hips.
"Well I'll be damned. Paul Lahote in my home," she stated. It wasn't rare for him to be here. After a month of us being friends he practically barged into my home, dying to meet the famous Gran. Ever since she has practically claimed him as another grandchild. Telling him since the moment he walked in the house that he'd better not call her anything besides her "name".
Smiling, he leaned down to her little old lady height and gave her a big hug. "It's nice to see you too Gran."
Before he could make a safe getaway she snatched him by his ear and pulled his face close to hers. "Would you like to explain to me what the hell that is? And don't you dare lie to me boy!"
Watching him gulp as she still had a tight hold on his ear, I couldn't help but let out a snort. I knew I should have bought popcorn. As I considered helping out my poor, shaking and stuttering best friend, I couldn't help but think back to at the diner when he scared me. Maybe I'll sit this one out, I thought to myself as I leaned against the door frame.
"W-well, you uh see, I um, er- fell?"
Her eyes squinted as she stared him down. We all knew that she knew he was lying. Regardless, she released his ear and right away he went to rub the soreness away. Giving me a questioning side-glance I just shrugged. Never in a million years would I be able to understand what goes on in that woman's head. I'm not gonna start trying to decode it now.
"What kinda grub did ya bring me? Gran is hungrier than tortoise with no shell." What even, I thought as I handed her the bag. Casually turning around as best she could she said, "Alright well you two have a good night. Don't stay up too late and DON'T mess up any of my soaps." Retreating off to her bedroom Paul and I just looked at each other before bursting into a fit of giggles.
"Paul, buddy, she really had ya there with that whole ear thing. Any tighter and she might have ripped it clean off." I said in between my fits of giggles.
"Oh yeah? Well it wasn't nearly as funny as when she beat you with her slipper for messing up one of her shows."
I gasped, "That's not even fair. You were the one that did it and you know it!"
"Yeah? Well guess that's the privilege I get being the favorite grandchild," he fought back smirking his stupid smirk. Oh, I'll show you favorite. Grabbing the nearest couch pillow I nailed him right in the face. After a mini pillow war, we retreated to the couch where we proceeded to watch The Fast and the Furious. Not long after I could hear Paul's soft snores and grabbed the blanket I had been using to place over him. Making my way to my room I could hear Gran's loud snores as well when I passed by her door. Smiling at the thought of the last two people I cared about being safe and sound.
Hi! I hope y'all are liking the story so far. Sorry the chapters are kinda short, I'm still getting used to everything. Like I said, it's kinda a slow burner and the Cullens aren't apart of it yet but you'll see a snippet of them soon. But have a good day/night wherever you are <3
