It seemed like forever since they had brought Caylee in, and Paul was terrified. Confined in the waiting room with Sam and Jared next to him, he paced and tugged at his short hair. At some point Sam had even scolded him to sit down.
"What is taking them so damn long?" Paul growled.
"Calm down. She was almost dead when we found her, it's more than a few stitches," Sam replied. He could tell his pack brother was distraught. Everyone who shifted had seen how close the two were. It scared them at first. They were worried he might imprint and shift in front of her like Sam had with Emily. Keeping them separated was their best bet.
Boy were they wrong.
Paul couldn't shift back for two days after Bella found out and they still wouldn't let him tell his best friend.
"Gentlemen." A smooth voice filled the clammy air causing Paul to snarl as the smell of leech filled his nostrals.
Paying the young wolf no mind Carlisle continued, "Miss Jones is alive. However, she has lost a lot of blood. She will be needing a blood transfusion."
Before another word could be said, Paul was on his feet. "I can do it doc. How much does she need?"
"Paul," Sam warned. Who knows what their blood would do to her; or what the vampire would do with their blood.
"No, I'm sorry. Due to obvious reasons, it wouldn't be smart mixing your blood with hers. It could potentially cause issues. But I do have blood ready to go for her. I just wanted to inform you of what's going on to give you some peace of mind." He said with a small smile.
"Can I see her?" The look on the boys face was heartbreaking. You could truly tell he cared about her. The problem with that is if he's here, Alice can't see her future. That in itself can be problematic.
Carlisle and Edward were still the only two to know about who the girl really was. Still, he couldn't find it in himself to deny Paul.
"You may come in during the transfusion, however, you will have to leave after. She will be resting for many hours afterwards and won't be able to talk."
Nodding, Paul got up and the other two wolves followed.
She looks so small, Paul thought to himself. Smaller than normal of course. The girl was a whopping 5 foot nothing, so she said, and had a small physique other than her hips that gave her a small hourglass look and a tiny tummy that would poke out from bloating after one of their snack sessions.
There were tubes everywhere and an IV drip hooked up. Her eyes were closed and you could see her long eyelashes touching her face.
"The transfusion has already been set up but after what happened, I'm not sure if it will do much good." Carlisle said.
------------------------------------------------------
Not even 20 minutes after the transfusion started something went very wrong.
Her body began convulsing and in her unconscious state began puking blood. Blood seeping out of her nose and mouth, it was horrifying to watch.
"DOC! DOC WE NEED YOU!" Paul yelled as he ran over to her body. Sam yanked him out of the way as Carlisle ran into the room.
"Her body is rejecting the blood we're putting in. I have to sedate her and do something else or she will lose more blood." He tried to same calmly. Honestly, he was nervous himself. If the girl didn't make it, it would destroy his daughter and he couldn't let that happen.
"Doc, use mine. Please use mine. If anything the wolfy part might make her heal faster. We have to try something, please!" Paul rushed out the words. Determined not to let himself cry his body began shaking a little as Sam and Jared held him back.
"I don't know if that will work Paul, it could make it even worse."
"We can't let her die! And you sure as hell aren't turning her into a leech!" He snarled.
Carlisle didn't know what exactly to do. Praying that because the wolves were in the room Alice didn't see this, he nodded and informed Paul of the procedures.
A half an hour later and the young shapeshifter hooked up, the girl was responding great. Carlisle's theory being that she will need less blood due to the healing properties in Paul's blood. He watched as the boy held her hand and placed his forehead on her arm.
"She never lets me touch her," he whispered. "I've never seen her touch anyone. There's something else wrong and she won't tell anyone."
"There's nothing wrong with her, she's just different. Like you and me." Carlisle responded.
