Paul was conflicted. For over a month he hasn't been able to speak to his best friend. "You're too dangerous Paul. You're gonna hurt her Paul. Calm down Paul." Constant demands flooding through his head before he could even wrap his head around what's happening.
The day his father tried to hurt Caylee he had almost lost it. Honestly, Paul didn't really remember all that happened. When the trance had been broken all he saw were his hands wrapped around the neck of the drunk, and the scared voice of his best friend.
After that Sam refused to let it go. "You have too much anger. You can't control yourself." It was a never ending lecture. A broken record. As if constantly making him feel hopeless would do anything to help. If there was one thing that emitted calm and happiness it was Caylee.
"Paul, your phone is ringing hon," Emily called out. She was one of the kindest people anyone could meet. Extremely accepting and had the pack mom vibe in full effect. With a hand on Paul's shoulder, and a reassuring smile she handed the phone over.
Of course it was Caylee. Before Sam could bother with the look, he pressed decline. However, it didn't stop the message that came afterwards. A frown on everyone's face in the room, besides Em's of course since she had no wolf hearing, they couldn't help but feel bad for the young boy. It was hard on everyone having to keep it from the people they loved. At least he handled it better than Jacob and his constant whining.
"Paul! Paul, you have to come quick. It's about your friend. Something is wrong!" Embry came bursting through the door.
No one could say anything before he had jumped out of his chair and was in his wolf form before leaving the patio.
Paul, think about what you are going to do. What if she sees you? Sam's voice could be heard. It did nothing to stop him though, as he just moved faster.
It didn't take long to get to the tiny two story home and change back. Pounding on the door, Paul shouted. But the overwhelming smell of blood hit his nose and he didn't hesitate to break the door down.
"Oh, God. No no no." He choked out as the sight before him made him nauseous. "Gran? Someone go look for Gran! Come on Cay, open your eyes. Go call 911!"
The tiny girl was sat on the floor, eyes closed and blood everywhere. You couldn't see where the bleeding had even started from as her whole arm was covered in it. Grabbing the closest towel he crawled down next to her, pulling her body in between his legs and tried applying pressure to Caylee's arms. That's what you're supposed to do right? He thought to himself.
The tears were already streaming. "Paul, there's something you should know." Jacob spoke up from the doorway.
"What the fuck is there to know Jacob, my best friend is dying right now!" He shouted.
Jake flinched, "It's about Gran. Bella mentioned something her dad said."
Shaking his head, Paul didn't care. "Caylee please, open your eyes. Please. Let me see those pretty green eyes. I'll watch any movie you want just please don't die on me. I'll buy you pizza everyday." He was sobbing, face in her hair. Her chest was moving very slow, and pulse faint.
"Her Gran is dead Paul."
It was even more shouting as Jacob was being yelled at and Paul starting shaking in a very not good way.
"No! They can't both be leaving me. Caylee wake up. Wake up! You're my best friend. I love you and I'm sorry just wake up." He yelled at her. Shaking her hard as if she was just asleep.
By the time the ambulance arrived it took three of the pack members to pry Paul off of the unresponsive girl, promising to take him to the hospital as soon as he calmed down. There were some whispers to Sam from the paramedics saying they weren't sure if she'd make it but that she was lucky they found her.
All Paul could do was cry.
