Drinking cheap alcohol and smoking a cigarette, I slurred along to a song I probably just came up with. Hearing rustling I shift my weight on the boat to get a better look. Taking a small drag, I flick the ashes and call out. "Hello?" No response. Standing up to get a better look I try again, "Joe? Joe?" Still, nothing.
This is strange, I think to myself. Feeling a little flustered and very tipsy I start the boat. As the boat is pulling out something pulls it back in. Turning around there is an eerily beautiful woman in front of me. "Hello," I say with a little more confidence. Something crashes behind me. A man, also beautiful, with no clothing on his torso.
"Nice jacket." Half naked man speaks with a growing smirk.
"W-who are you?"
"Always the same questions. Who are you? What do you want? Why are you doing this?"
A darker skinned man flashes into the boat, "James, let's not play with our food."
Gasping I sit up, desperately trying to get rid of the fear installed in my chest. What is going on? I have these dreams all the time, but never about these kind of deaths. Who are those crazies and why is one of them the same guy that's going to try to kill Bella? And who was I in the dream that is doomed to die soon?
Quietly, I walk towards Gran's room. The door is cracked slightly and I poke my head through a little to see if she's okay. Besides her being old, there are so many other things I have to worry about.
"Come in child. There's no use hiding in the doorway when it won't settle what's on your mind."
Of course she knew I was standing there. I swear she had the senses of an animal. Moving towards her bed I take a seat. She's in her rocking chair staring out the window. She knows I had a dream, and she must know what I am about to ask.
"Gran, I saw some weird things today," I paused. "Weirder than normal."
"It was only a matter of time darlin'. But I'm happier than a pig that missed the holidays that I am still here to see you find out." She chuckled. Weird things were her specialty. Her graying hair was pulled in a long braid as she seemed lost in thought, a small smile playing at her lips. Before I could even try to open my mouth to speak she beat me to it.
"There are strange things in this world Caylee. Much stranger than you would have thought. Humans aren't the only monsters out there. There's a whole other world you were born to see. You didn't think the things you see were just because of nothin' did ya? No, child, so much more. I knew it the second you were born you were meant for something else. This plain old human life doesn't suit you."
"G-gran, you aren't making sense. I don't understand. What were those people in my dream?"
"My love, I think you already know. You just don't want to believe it. It's already started. There's a reason we moved here. She knows you're coming. And he has waited many years for you. Just wait." At that, the old woman fell asleep. Eyes drooping, bottom lip jutting out slightly as loud snores protruded from her mouth.
Sighing, I grabbed a blanket and covered her so she wouldn't get cold. Maybe I really am crazy, I thought to myself.
The next morning I received a call saying I need to get a new dosage on my prescriptions. It's probably useless. The more I tried to stop getting the dreams, and wanted to touch my loved ones, nothing stopped what came. I didn't talk about what happened after the accident. Even Paul didn't know the full story. But now it's fine. It's just some pills to help and a little lie so they don't try to lock me up for being psycho.
The hospital in Forks wasn't as full as I had thought it would be. Only a few people lingering around for different things. My old doctor is gone, some kind of expedition to go help kids in some other country. Good for him, bad for those poor kids. He wasn't very good or nice to anyone, let alone children. Now I'm waiting for a Dr. Cullen to open his dumb door and give me the dumb prescriptions.
"Caylee? You can come on in. I'm Dr. Carlisle Cullen, I believe they informed you that I'm your new doctor?" He looked down at his clipboard and then up at me.
To say he wasn't beautiful would be a lie. His eyes are what got me first though. As much as I wanted to be uncomfortable and dislike him, it was impossible. I felt an eerie sense of calm. Like I was safe.
"Yes they did. I hadn't realized that my new doctor was so...young?" I paused, trying to find the right words.
With a soft chuckle he replied, "Well the job pays good and I'm good at what I do. It says here that you are due for a new prescription. I would just like to ask you a few questions first. Nothing about what happened back in your old place."
Taking in a breath, I slowly nodded my head.
"Have you been sleeping well? Any night terrors or anxiety?"
"I have been sleeping a few hours night. No more than 3 or 4. I get nightmares pretty frequent, and anxiety is something I've always had."
"Okay. The prescription I'm writing should help with that. Along with the other stuff. We don't have to go into detail right now."
The truth is I don't think anything will help with the way I feel, the things I'm forced to see. It was terrifying. I don't want to dream and experience someones death before it's happened. I never even know the people. Even worse is I can't even touch my grandmother, or my best friend, without seeing a glimpse of how they are going to die. I am forced to live in this state of unhappiness. All because some dumb thing in the universe decided I deserved to live while my parents got to die. My unborn sister.
"Thank you," I mumbled as he handed me my paperwork.
