"You're okay," I launched myself into Paul's awaiting arms. "I was so worried. When Emily called and said that I had to hurry I thought something happened to you. Of course I still feel bad about Jake but I don't really know him that well because of his obsession with Bella and we-"
"Cay," he chuckled. "I'm okay. Jared's okay. Your leeches are okay. You can relax."
I nodded my head and hugged him tighter, grateful for his warmth. "Is Bella here?"
"Yeah. She's in with Jake now. Do me a favor and hitch a ride to the Cullen's with her. I gotta run patrol and crash soon," he responded. Looking at Paul's face I could see just how exhausted he was. The past few months have taken a toll on him.
"I can stay. My bed is all ready if you wanna sleep over." My voice was hopeful. Truthfully I was too nervous to see Jasper, afraid my emotions would give me away and he'd ask questions. And I missed having my best friend all to myself.
"As great as that sounds I have to say no. It's easier to crash at Em's. The couch may not be as comfy but at least I don't have you assaulting me in the middle of the night," Paul joked.
I looked down at the muddy ground, "I could always clear out Gran's room. You can stay permanently. We always wanted to be roomies." Without hesitation he declined. Stating that it wouldn't be right.
A half an hour later Bella emerged from the small home of Billie Black, awkwardly smiling to me and letting me ride with her back to the Cullen household. Something was clearly bothering her, but I didn't want to push.
"Do you think you and Jasper are gonna get married soon?" Bella's question broke the silence.
"Er, no? Unless he told you something he hasn't told me," I laughed. She let out a nervous chuckle in response. "Listen, Bells. I know we aren't the closest of friends, and I guess we are gonna be somewhat family due to the weird Alice relation and being Jasper's mate. But I wanted you to know I respect your decision."
A strange choking sound of surprise came from her throat as she struggled to find something to say in return.
"You know what you want, and that's more than what a lot of us can say. You really went for it and grasped your love for Edward and your determination to be with him forever. Ya did it in a weird way, but whatever works I guess."
We didn't need to say anything else. Our awkward natures understood enough.
"Caylee!" Emmett was the first to greet me. Nearly ripping my arm from its socket, he pulled me out of the truck and into his big embrace.
"Emmett! Put! Her! Down!" Alice emphasized each word slowly. Despite her size compared to his, he carefully placed me back onto the ground with a huff.
"Just cause' you guys are related or something, doesn't mean you get to have her all to yourself." Emmett's voice was laced with a childlike pout, and Rosalie walked over to rub his arm gently before taking him into the house - giving me a warm smile along the way.
"Come on, Jasper's waiting," her voice rang out excitedly. Tugging me inside, she told me everything that happened.
Jasper was waiting in the room I usually slept in. Standing by the window and gazing at the forest. You could've easily thought he was in a painting.
"Jas?" Within a millisecond his frame stood in front of me, allowing me to pull him close in a hug. "I missed you."
"I missed you too darlin'." He whispered into my hair.
I pulled back, pushing him into a seated position on the bed before standing in between his legs. "Alice told me there was a girl - a young newborn that the Volturi killed." His face turned sad, and he gripped my hips softly as he laid his head down of my chest.
Trying my best to soothe him, I ran my fingers through his hair and kissed the top of his head. Jasper's whole body shook and trembled almost resembling a sob. I sat on his lap, pulling his head into the crook of my neck and repeated my gentle gestures.
"It was horrible," he whispered. "Feeling that kind of pain again. The worst part is, I enjoyed some of it at first. The adrenaline of it. Before it all sunk in. Seeing that girl I just-"
I shushed him, holding him tighter to my body. Because of the worry over Bella's protection, I don't think the rest of the family really took into account how bad it would upset Jasper to have to relive such a terrible thing.
"Jas I'm proud of you." Jasper's eyes met mine in wonder. "You have gone through so much. Been alive for so long, having to see and do things without knowing what else there was. Being manipulated. Regardless of what you think, you have come so far and accomplished so much. I'm so incredibly proud of you for doing so well despite all the obsticles in your way. You found your forever family, you found me." My eyes started welling up. "And I couldn't ask for a better cowboy to spend my life with."
He let out a strained laugh and pulled me close. His lips caressed mine softly and I knew he was nervous. Pushing closer to him I shoved all of my happy and loving emotions towards him, overfilling him with as many good waves as possible as I tangled my hands into his hair. When we pulled away Jasper's smile was big. His pale skin seemed luminescent the more he soaked up my emotions.
"I love you," he mumbled, pressing a kiss to my lips and another to my forehead.
