"Hey, uh bestie? You ok in there?" Jared's anxious voice called through the bathroom door.
My head was beyond throbbing and I could feel the blood drying to my face. Hair sticking to my face and leaning against the wall I felt groggy. Unsure of what was really going on and listening to Jared's nervous pacing from outside the door I mumbled a small "I'm okay."
A sigh emitted from the shapeshifters mouth as I stood up wobbly, attempted to clean any existing mess from my face and sink.
"Sorry J, I just felt a little sick is all," I said quietly opening the door.
"It's okay, I just got a little scared when I didn't hear anything for a bit. Your heartbeat was slow and I'm not a doctor or anything but that didn't seem too good." Jared reached over and carefully lead me back to bed, letting me curl up next to him in the bed.
"When is Paul getting back?" My teeth chattered and I wiggled closer to Jared for warmth.
He gasped dramatically, "I'm offended! Am I not enough for you? Am I too clingy? I can change Cay, just gimme a chance."
I giggled at him. Jared never failed to make me laugh. "Your phone was ringin' earlier. It was the weird pixie and constipated face. Checkin' up on you or something I guess. I told them you were fine though."
The thought spread warm feelings all over. Alice and Jasper were thinking of me. Alice was a good friend, always wanting to take care of me. Maybe it's just because I'm her last bit of family but she cares, which means a lot.
And Jasper was so different. The way I felt when near him was far more than what his power could ever accomplish. It brought a smile to my face thinking about him and how much him and Alice's family means to me already.
"Unbelievable, you aren't even listening. I was in the middle of my second side story and everything."
---------------------------------------
Okay just breathe. In and out.
Anxiety was very present in my body as I stood in front of the Cullen household.
"Come on already," Alice mumbled. With a cold hand she dragged me all the way upstairs as fast as she could without going vampy on me. She was determined to do me all up without any of her family members seeing me.
"Ali, it's really not a big deal."
"Nonsense, I've already seen it." She pulled out a bag with some French name I couldn't pronounce on it and a makeup bag. Leading me to a chair she began fussing over my looks. "Now Jasper already thinks you're gorgeous and I agree so I'm not gonna put too much makeup on you."
This droned on for what felt like hours. Honestly, it probably was hours. I didn't have a clock near me and Alice had none in her room. Then again they don't really need to seeing as they don't sleep or anything.
"CAYLEE!" Emmett's obnoxiously loud voice boomed in the doorway.
"Emmett you ruin everything!" Alice yelled back.
"Correction, I make everything better. Aww, don't you look cute." He gushed at me like a baby, reaching over and grabbing my cheeks roughly and making stupid noises.
"GET OUT!" With that, he vamped it out of there and slammed the door behind him.
"Well now you don't need any blush. Put on the dress." She spoke quickly. Unzipping the bag I see she had got me a formal dress. It wasn't long but it definitely wasn't a first date type of dress.
"Alice, what exactly are we doing?"
She shook her head. Saying the same thing I had heard plenty times before about how she was sworn to secrecy. Eventually everything was finished and a knock came at her door.
"Come in Jasper," she said. Smile wide across her face as she stepped back from me with a proud look.
Jasper stood in the doorway in a nice suit looking nervous. "You look beautiful." He said softly. Immediately I felt a blush make its way up to my cheeks. Taking his arm he smiled at me, pushing calm feelings my way. If only I could push them back so he didn't have to feel the way he does all the time.
"Where are we going?"
"Not far, only the backyard." He was shy - no doubt would his own face be red if his blood still circulated. I gave him a questioning glance and he just smirked as we approached the scene before us.
Beautiful fairy light were strung in the tress, small decorations and lanterns placed around along with flower petals. A small gazebo was placed in the center and soft music played around us.
"I hope it's okay. You told me you never got to go to prom and we graduate next week so," his voice trailed off. Looking down at me his eyes searched mine.
"This is wonderful. Thank you." Tears brimmed my eyes at his thoughtfulness and he pulled me under the gazebo, music falling into the background.
"Ma'am, may I have this dance?"
I placed my head against his chest as we swayed slowly. It was peaceful. His hands placed respectfully on my waist, never trailing lower. Warmth spread all over me despite his cold body.
"Listen buckaroo, if you think you can do that weird voodoo stuff on me to get me to like you, you're not completely wrong," I joked.
"You must be mistaken, I'm not doing anything. That's all you darlin'."
