Anxiety wasn't even the right word to describe this feeling. It was worse than that. As I stood in my room trying to take deep breaths, I felt so overwhelmed I didn't know what to do. Forks, Washington may be rainy and cold all the time, but anyone who looked at me will think I'm crazy. Layer after layer of clothing was pulled onto my body in hopes of shielding myself from anyone's touch that may get in the way. There will be no need to watch a schoolmates future death anytime soon.
The bottle sat in front of me; glaring at me in what felt like a staring contest. The pills I couldn't help but hate. Anytime they're consumed I was in a constant daze, feeling nothing but a slight drift. Only aware enough of my surroundings to avoid touching. Closing my eyes I took one, already shuddering at the feeling.
Gran was still asleep for at least another twenty minutes. I made her coffee and toast, bringing her medication just in case she decided to take them, and set them on her nightstand. With a small kiss to her forehead and an unspoken "I love you", I was off.
The drive was supposed to be longer. 15 minutes to be exact. Time seemed to go a lot faster than I had hoped as I was already trying to find a parking spot. There were only two spots open and I quickly parked, praying it wasn't someone I'd have to deal with today. Putting my head down in hopes of regulating my breathing, I was unlucky to hear loud knocking on my window.
"You can't park here, it's not your spot." Maybe if I pretend I can't hear them, they will leave. "Hello? You need to move." Guess not.
I opened my door so fast, the person stumbled back. Almost falling on their butt from the slippery ground. "Sorry, but there's nowhere else. Maybe they coul- Bella? Is that you?"
Standing in front of me was a depressed, sunken in looking girl. A girl that looked like the Bella Swan I met almost a year ago.
"H-hi. Sorry Caylee. I didn't realize it was you. You go here?" She was talking in a raspy whisper. Whatever is wrong with her, she's got it bad. Not to mention I figured she'd be dead by now. I almost smiled at the thought of her listening to my warning. Finally having something good come out of my situation. I simply nodded at her question.
"Yeah, today is my first day. Do you mind pointing me to the office?" Without a word, Bella just pointed to the building to the far right and walked away. Alrighty then. Who needs a familiar face? Ha, not me.
The schedule I was given was basically useless. It was filled with gaps for free periods and I basically finished all the other classes already. To top it off I was getting stared at like crazy. The shyness and the overwhelming urge to retreat into my truck to call Paul was ridiculous. Especially since I couldn't call him anymore. Not that he would've helped much. Just laughter and jokes. If he noticed that wasn't helping his voice would have changed into a sweeter and softer tone that no one got the pleasure of hearing besides Gran and myself.
Multiple kids tried to come up to me. A preppy girl who spoke too fast and mainly about herself, some freshman that was attempting what I could only assume was a flirt, and an Asian boy who kept asking to take my picture. All were a little terrifying and ended in a fast walk in the opposite direction.
Lunch soon rolled around and boy was I out of it. It was bad enough walking through the halls, but lunch was a big nope. All of the tables were full except one, which Bella was sitting at by herself, and I saw the persistent 'can I take your photo' dude coming my way fast. Making a fast walk to her table I sat down quickly. His face turned into a look of disappointment as he went back to his own seat.
"I'm really sorry, I know you don't wanna be near me and stuff but that kid was going to talk to me." I tried to rush out fast. She was barely even listening though. A little nod and a longing stare out the window was all that was communicated.
Minutes passed in silence before she finally spoke up. "I don't mind you hanging around. My friends have just been distant lately is all and I'm worried."
Understanding exactly what she meant we started an easy going conversation until the bell rang and we parted ways. Slowly but surely the school day came to an end. I don't think I have ever sped so fast. Smiling, I thought about the times Paul would joke about how I could never make the cut after watching the Fast and the Furious together.

The kitchen was empty and the TV was going in the living room when I got home. I got a bottled water and sat all my stuff down. No homework left to do since I had free periods to finish it all.
"Gran, do you want some pizza? I'm hungry and I'm feelin' something greasy." I called out as I grabbed a bag of chips to snack on.
Nothing. Of course, her stupid soap is on too loud. I swear that woman would be deaf if she wasn't so darn stubborn to let that happen. She could smack a death eater in the face and it'd retreat faster than someone whipping out a wand. She's too good for spells.
Walking into the living room I groaned. "Gran, you spilled your water everywhere. And you yell at me when I drop a single crumb." Sure enough, her water glass was tipped over the edge of the coffee table and water was dripping down. Quickly grabbing some paper towels, I set them down before glancing up.
"Gran?" She was laying there in her recliner with her eyes closed. You could almost think she was sleeping. But not me, she was the lightest sleeper I know. "Gran? Gran wake up. This isn't funny." I began panicking at this point. Any trace of my medication from this morning was gone. I was wide awake now. Tears began overflowing as I thought the worst. "Please wake up Gran."
Sobbing as I leaned against her chair hoping for a response, I fumbled for my phone. Dialing 911, everything after was a blur. "Gran please don't leave me. I need you." I choked out. Grabbing her cold hand in mine, I prayed for a vision to come. But there was nothing left, it had already came.
For the first time I could touch my Gran. But oh, how I wished I couldn't. Touching all over, her face, neck, arm, hand. Nothing. Pulling her body close I held her tight, sobbing and yelling until my throat was raw.
She was gone.
And little did I know, that just an hour before I arrived, a tiny little vampire had left.
If there may be any confusion on how Alice could get into their house without breaking the treaty, while their house is considered on the reservation to them, it is technically on the line. So its almost like a middle ground if that makes any sense. Since behind her house is just a forest and in front of her house would be what is considered the res, that's why they technically consider it on the res. I don't know if that makes any sense haha I know the stream is what divides it in the original but lets pretend this counts too <3
