To say that HoSeok has good relationship with his family is like to say nothing.
Maybe because they always supports each other due their financial status. Or maybe it's just because Mr. and Mrs. Jung are tremendously warm people, who teach both of their children about the most precious values in life.
Since HoSeok could remember there never was any special amount of money at his home. He and his older sister always played with toys bought for hundreds, rarely for thousands of won that they both hardly saved for a long times. Clothes from recycling required a lot of experimenting with style. Contrary to what people could think, they didn't and still don't mind it. Their parents, from their earliest years, taught them to respect the money and what they have, so he as well as DaWon are trying to use what they receive in the best way possible, knowing how much work it takes for their parents to gain enough to cover family needs.
It wasn't anything strange or unusual to the kids, that since they were old enough, they started to go from neighbor to neighbor, asking if they could do something to earn a little money. Maybe walking neighbor's dog out or raking the leaves on the lawn. Kids were doing what they could and, despite their parents protests who wanted their children to have their own money, were giving them what they earned. Honestly, Mr. ans Mrs. Jung have very wise and selfless children.
Through the years the ties between the family members is deepening day by day. They support and comfort each other during hard times, cheering when they are reaching their goals, enjoying every good thing that comes to this family.
From time to time they are able to give each other some gifts. No necessarily for holidays, the date doesn't matter, it's just to show their feelings by this. And almost every time it is love and gratefulness for the family members.
Despite financial problems there was something that Jungs never lack and it is true love.
But in the house of our second protagonist it is totally different.
He never met his mother, his father is only looking at him with eyes full of contempt, while his stepmother and older stepbrother are pretending that he does not exist.
Probably if not the servants, who made sure that the child was eating, he would leave this world long time ago one way or another. If only there is someone who doesn't fear the head of the family, they would take the sad boy under they care. It wasn't like anybody would tell that he was born out od wedlock to the master of the house. They only wanted to make this young man's, contrary to what people think, difficult life easier.
It's true that he receives material support from his father, but it isn't out of love, it is for nobody to think that he's from low class family, when he sends him to the society where having expensive things is the biggest value. CEO Kim couldn't afford people thinking that they don't have money for their kids. It would be a shame.
So the child, since the earliest time had received the best material things but didn't receive anything emotionally. Someone could tell that he is a spoiled brat, but the truth is different. The step mother and her son never forgot to remind him where he really belongs and SeokJin himself never asked fot a single thing, being convinced that he doesn't deserve the right to do this. He takes only the things that are given to him, being careful with all of it, having a rightful concern that if he breaks something, he won't receive the next one.
His only dream is to hear jus once in his life a good, kind word from his relatives. And if not this, he just wants to become adult enough for his father to disown him so he could gain his freedom with hope that the specter of his brother won't reach him anymore and people will look at him like at any other normal person who's longing for closeness of someone.
As we can see, both of our main characters are fighting with their own difficulties. One from the physical side, the other one from the mental side.
However, are they different from each other enough to not understand one another one day? Or maybe it's opposite, the outgoing Jung would help Kim to look at the life from different perspective, while he'll do what he can for the older boy to help him and his family in their hard situation?
The answers for those questions will be uncovered faster than anyone thinks.
