Chapter 13 (Becca)

        When the lunch bell rang I was settling into my seat at my cafeteria table. I waited for Elena, Lux and Jules to come and while I waited, I grabbed my lunch bag and rummaged through my food. I pulled out the garden salad and chicken breast I had made this morning and settled it onto the table. As I pulled out my fork, I saw Silas walk through the door with Dylan. They were talking and Dylan was pointing towards the table where he, his friends and sometimes Jules sat. I saw Silas nod and started to say something to Dylan when he caught me staring at him. Instead of ignoring me, he smiled and waved. I beamed and waved back. His slight acknowledgment of me made me all warm on the inside. I felt like a middle schooler developing a crush. Middle schooler or high schooler, he made me feel happy and around him I only smiled. I saw him say something to Dylan and started to walk towards me. Most of the people in the cafeteria were settle in their seats and talking to each other. Silas walked through the middle of the room and since most of the people were sitting, he was noticeable throughout the room. Not only because of that but also because he was one of the most attractive guys in the cafeteria. Most eyes were on him but a few were on me as well. I started to feel a little nervous as he neared. Casually, Silas said “Is anyone sitting here?” “There is now.” I said. There is now? What the hell?  Though it was usually only four people sitting at the chairs including me, there were five chairs. He sat down and slung an arm around the back of his chair. He sat across from me and just looked at me with a smug look on his face. I got a bit uncomfortable and said “What?” “Nothing” He replied but kept staring. “Oh my god you creeping me out, what are you looking at?” “You” He said. I wiggled in my seat and gave a sly smile. “Did anyone ever tell you you’re beautiful Becca?” I looked at him in surprise “Yeah, my parents.” I said with a small laugh. “Well I’m telling you now, you’re beautiful.” “Uh... Thanks.” As if he hadn’t just made a complement super awkward he stood and said “Well your friends are coming, I’ll see you around?” I turned my head around and like he said, Elena, Lux and Jules were walking towards me. Turning back to him I said “Yeah” he smiled. He stalked away towards the cafeteria line. Sitting there smiling stupidly, I laughed at myself and kept smiling, enjoying the moment of happiness I had. Elena pulled out the chair beside as Lux and Jules took the seats that were in front of me. “What are you smiling about? Not that it’s bad but what’s up.” Elena said smiling. She gave me her spill the gossip look. “Nothing obscure” “Spill!” She said slightly raising her voice. “Chill, it’s just... Silas.” I saw her and Lux laughing but Jules had a serious expression on his face. “Does Becca have a crushy wushy?” Lux asked. “Oh my god you guys are so immature.” They just started to laugh even more. I rolled my eyes at them and continued to eat my salad. They all pulled out their lunches and started to eat with me. “I’m having a party for you today Becca.” I looked up from my food to see Jules looking at me intensely. When he spoke, there was the slight sound of sarcasm but it was relatively serious sounding. I let out a nervous laugh and said “Wow thanks. Your mom’s okay with it?” Jules lightened up a little and said “She’s cool with it. She even offered to buy us beer as long as we don’t wreck the house. She’s going to go out with my dad for the night.” “Your parents really are the best.” I admitted to Jules for the hundredth time since we first met. He shrugged. “Anyways, the party is meant for you to let loose and have a good time.” He said smiling. “I told my friends that they can bring a couple of friends but not too many so that the party is more... lively.” I wanted to ask if I could bring Silas but I had the feeling that Jules didn’t really like him given that he told me to be careful around him. After talking about the party and other things, I felt a vibration coming from my phone. Lifting my phone out of my pocket, I checked to see who texted me. My heart fluttered a little when I saw who the text was from. –Wanna meet me at the library in a few? –Silas Since he hasn’t texted me before, I quickly added his name into my contacts list and replied to him saying –Yeah I’ll be there! Quickly deleting the exclamation point I pressed send. Looking up from my phone, I finished my salad, and told my friends that I was going to the library and didn’t say more. They nodded and said they’d see me later. Before I forgot I said “I’m staying after school to watch the football practice so I can’t hang out later...” Looking at Lux and Elena I gave them the I’ll explain later but please cover for me look and gave them a smile. Jules may be my best friend but I still had a slight closer bond with Elena and Lux. They slowly nodded understanding what I meant and quickly distracted Jules before he could ask any questions. Glancing to wear Silas had been sitting, I saw that he was gone and probably at the library. As I started to walk away I heard Elena say to Jules “So which dress do you think looks better on me for our Junior Dance? This one or this one?” Thankful for my friends, I quickly headed towards the library.
