I lay on my bed, the night of the battle, thinking of all the memories I shared with Becca. Smiling, I thought back to the night we’d been stargazing on the soft grass, by the small creek by my house. She had said “I’ve still never been to your house.” The smell of the earth and the fresh scent of grass is still vivid in my mind. The moonlight had lit up her face and she had looked beautiful. I remember the taste of her lips that night. They’d been soft and cherry tasting. She had been sprawled on my chest and her long hair had smelt like flowers. Her beautiful body was bathed in the dim moonlight, and the shine of the moon made her pearly white teeth glisten. I remember laughing into her hair and saying “How ‘bout be go now?” She had instantly sat up and jumped to her feet. I’d followed her to my car and saw her reflection in the water, shimmering beside us. “Let’s go!” The car ride had been full of giggles and smiles. When we had arrived at my house her mouth had been dropped open. I had laughed at her when she said “This is your house? Whenever my family drove by here, we always talked about living here!” “Maybe one day you will live here.” I hadn’t been kidding. I really did want her to live with me. When I gave her a tour of the house, she had talked on and on about the designs. “Yeah, my mother goes way back with designing houses.” “I thought she was doctor.” She had told me. “She is now, but she’s had other professions as well. Though, designing things had always been one of her hobbies.” Becca looked slightly shocked. “I know it sounds rude but… How old is your mom?” I had chuckled at her question. “Honestly, I don’t really know her exact age. You can probably ask her. But I can tell you that she’s lived for thousands of years.” Becca had shaken her head. “No thanks.” That night, she’d slept over at my house. Her parents had been surprisingly supportive of our relationship. I guess my affection for her really showed, and I was glad for it too. Going back to all of these memories are what fuels me to get through every day. Becca was like a drug to me, I could never get enough of her. She and I had tried to live our lives out as human as possible. We did our exams, went to school and did activities. But on Wednesday, all the pretending needed to subside. Wednesday will be known as one of the bloodiest, violent and dangerous day of the supernatural. I was awake and energized. We had taken a nap to reserve our strength. It was four o’clock in the afternoon. Everyone in my house was awake and I was almost sure that Troy’s family was awake too. I got dressed and cleaned myself up. Even though Faded Shadows were powerful, we were still greatly outnumbered. Walking down the stairs, I grabbed a cup of coffee from the dozens that were laid out on the table. Walking to the basement while drinking my coffee, I unlocked the weapons room. Grabbing one of the spare duffle bags, I filled it with weapons. For a while now, we’ve been growing a certain plant that causes vampires to weaken. At the vampire section was a section of dirt and fertilizer. Growing from the ground was a flower called a Solidaster. It’s a small yellow flower that weakens and poisons vampires. We grew batches of it and every Faded Shadow got their own batch. Taking my share of the plant, I placed it in my bag and grabbed more weapons. I never believed in guns, they were messy and time consuming. I found them useless because they were mostly for distanced battle and our battle was going to be man to man. Grabbing five stakes, I threw them into the bag. I entered the hand crafted, weaponry room. I’ve always liked old fashioned weapons so I grabbed two of my personally crafted weapons, the katana. I had made it myself to suit my liking but the main idea of the katana was present, just slightly upgraded. The katana was my favourite sword. It was easy to use, especially for beheading vampires. Putting both sheathed weapons on my back, I left the room. I closed up the wall walked up the stairs. During times of battle, I never enjoyed carrying loads of weapons. In previous battles over my years, most of the time, I only brought my katanas. However my weapons usually were based off of who the opposing side were. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a rolling pin and a cup of water. Then I climbed the stairs and went to my room. Pulling out all my weapons, I laid them onto my bed. I placed the cup on my table and placed a stem full of the flowers into the cup and smashed it to dust. Sprinkling the dust into the cup, I mixed it together to make a thick liquid substance. Smiling, I grabbed my stakes off of my bed. Dipping every stake into the liquid, I made sure that the end of the stake was entirely covered. I took an airbrush and dumped the remaining fluids in it. I sprayed the liquid onto my katanas and made sure they were entirely covered. I put on a light leather jacket with many pockets on the inside. I placed my stakes in the hooks and had the swords against my back. I knew that the airbrush could be an important distraction so I took it with me and walked down the stairs. Everyone involved with the battle was taking their things and loading it into their bags and cars. I saw Troy and walked over to him. “You ready?” He asked. A bloodthirsty formed on my lips, “As I’ll ever be.”
