There was an entire conference room filled with vampires. I was guessing the third floor was the main discussion floor; there were only six floors so it would be easy to check them all for vampires. I counted how many people were in the room and nine. The guy from downstairs must’ve been the tenth vampire; oops. The vampires in the room didn’t look as if they were discussing much; they were probably waiting for the boy. I told my mother about my assumption. “You shouldn’t have killed him then!” My mother yelled. Being in our natural forms did not only hide us from other creatures, but it also hid our voice. Being in our true form was like being in a different realm. Nobody could see or hear us. Being in a different realm meant that nobody would know we were there, there for they couldn’t touch us. You cannot touch something if you don’t know it’s there. That’s why we are able to touch people from the earth realm if we wished, because we can see them. It was an extreme advantage, that’s why we are the best predators. The only thing that another creature could detect about us was our movements. If we ran, we would leave a trail of wind behind us. My mother was able to yell at me all she wanted without letting the vampires know that we were there. In my defense I said “May I remind you that you guys are the one who told me that it was fine to get rid of him?” She knew that I was right so she just rolled her eyes. “Can we focus now? What are we going to do about them?” Troy whispered. I thought about it for a moment. “We can have my mom walk in the room, planting illusions of the boy into their minds, instead of having them see her as... herself?” I suggested. “It’s possible, but it’s a little risky. Your father could do it perfectly though.” My mother told me. “How about you get Dean to come here and we will distract while we wait?” Troy told us. My mother and I both agreed. She left the third floor to go and call my father. Troy and I stood there and thought about what to do next. We observed the people in the room and saw that they started to get a little worried. An idea popped into my mind. “How about this, you make somebody in the room have a minor headache. They’ll all be paying attention to the person with the headache when I’ll grab somebody from inside the room and tell them to go look for the other vampire. That way, when they come back, I’ll compel them to tell the group to start the meeting.” Troy grinned. “Alright, what are we waiting for?” We walked closer to the glass conference room and when we got to the door, Troy eyed a man who looked about thirty years old. The man pulled at his dark blond and brown hair and started to groan in pain. After every few seconds, Troy increased the pain and the man squeezed his dark green eyes together. Everyone went over to him to ask what was going on. I quickly slipped into the room and grabbed the nearest person to me and said to them “You will tell everyone that you are going to go look for the guy who is not present. Make sure they start without you two.” The girl nodded. I left the room and gave Troy a nod. He slowly decreased the pain in the vampire’s head. The man was breathing heavily and somebody asked “What happened to you George?” George shook his head and said “I don’t know; my head just started to hurt. It’s fine now though...” “Damnit George pull it together! We have no place for weakness!” A girl with dark purple and black hair told him. She was an average height for a woman; she looked about 5’6. George bowed his head and mumbled an apology. I was guessing that the purple haired girl was the leader of the group from the way she stood and spoke. She stood tall and proud, with her head help high, and she spoke with confidence and strength. “Valerie, do you want me to go look for Adam?” The purple haired girl whipped her head towards the girl I'd compelled. Her eyes were a vibrant shade of green and they flared when she looked her way. “You can go find him but we must start. We cannot waste anymore time.” My plan went even better than I hoped. The girl scurried out the door, past me. I looked over to Troy and he was smiling. A smile crept onto my lips as I listened in on what the vampires were saying. “Alright, we have 21 people with us right know. I have told you all this before, we need more people. Faded Shadows are far more powerful than us so if want to defeat them, then we need to have our strength in numbers.” Valerie told the group. “How many Faded Shadows are there?” I looked to see where the voice was coming from. My eyes landed on a familiar face. “That’s why we are patrolling Ashton, we are not entirely sure. I know that there is at least one Faded Shadow in the area, and that is enough to cause trouble. If we don’t get rid of them, they will take our city and all our humans with them.” The vampire looked familiar because he was the vampire from my hunting night! Troy noticed too and gave me a look of interest. “I’m sure there are plenty of humans to go round.” A low voice said near the end of the table. A buff man sat there, slouched in his seat. Valerie abruptly stood from her chair and yelled “Do you not think that humans will get suspicious if so many people go missing? Even if we didn’t put that into thought, nobody would ever visit or live here if there are so many murders happening here!” There were a few mumbles of agreement going around the table. I had to agree with her on that one. It's the reason why I go out of town to hunt sometimes, to lower any suspicion. “Unlike those disgusting Faded Shadows, we are able to compel humans to even forget we are there, plus we don’t even need to kill them in order to feed. Faded Shadows do, it is ridiculous!” I’ll show her ridiculous when I kill her! Troy saw the anger rising up behind my eyes and walked over to me and firmly held me down so I wouldn’t be tempted to snap Valerie’s neck. I let out a low, quiet growl. “Silas, your dad will be here any second now. At least last the few minutes without killing anyone.” I sighed. Troy might’ve been the one who always got mixed with trouble but I always had an anger when it came to people I didn’t like. It was extremely hard for me to resist killing off some snotty supernatural creatures. Another animal-like growl escaped my lips. I felt a vibration in my pocket. I was grabbing for my phone when Troy grabbed his phone from his pocket as well. -I’m here. Erin and I are going up the stairs. the text from my father read. I looked to Troy and his facial expression of relief showed he got the same text

“Son, Troy.” My father walked through the doors and entered the hallway to greet us. “Okay, where is the body?” My father could form into any existing being as long as he was able to have some sort of reading on their DNA. “It’ll waste too much time to go get his body.” I looked down at my black shirt. I saw the blood stain my stake had left when I wiped it on my shirt. Holding out my shirt I said “This is his blood, can you duplicate yourself from this?” My father examined my shirt and said “It’ll do.” I nodded and took off my jacket and then my shirt after. I handed my shirt to my father and slid the jacket back on. I didn’t feel affected by the heat outside so I had worn a leather jacket. I took my gun out from underneath the waistline of my pants and put it in a pocket on the inside of my jacket. My father held my bloody shirt in his hand as his face started to change forms. I had seen him change so many times that it shouldn’t faze me but every time he changed in front of me, it still left me dazed. In a blink of an eye, he no longer looked like my father but the vampire; Adam. He smiled and said “How do I look?” “Like a vampire.” I told him. He flashed me a fanged smile and asked “Do I sound like him?” Troy responded with “Pretty much.” “Alright, let’s get this show on the road.” I told everyone. We headed to the conference room again but this time, with Adam. My father walked into the room and opened the door large enough for my mother, Troy and I do quickly rush in behind him. “Adam, how nice of you to finally join us.” Valerie sneered. Why shape-shift into somebody if you don’t have at least some guide of their personality. “Valerie” I whispered in my father’s ear. “Why thank you Valerie.” Something told me that Adam was a very humorous vampire. “Well there’s no point wasting my time with you, continue the discussion everyone.” Valerie gave my father a stern stare then turned her head away. “I say the best way we can get rid of the Faded Shadows is by forcing them to leave the city. It will be hard to kill them all but there might be a chance in making them leave.” Ashton said. I was guessing that he was second in command because people looked up to him like he had a high authority. “Yes we could do that, but there is no guarantee that’d they stay out of the city! We don’t even know everything about them; you can win if you don’t know your opponent.”  A girl said to everyone. She was smart, I could tell. “Another reason why we can’t just make them leave, we need to just kill them all!” Somebody yelled. I laughed when they said that. Vampires would have no chance fighting against us. “Even if we are going to get rid of them, we need to make sure we have enough people to battle the Faded Shadows.” They all looked back to Valerie where she was frowning, deep in thought. “This conference is now over.” I was surprised by what she said, never mind everyone else. The entire room was mumbling and speaking to each other. “What’s the final verdict?” Somebody called out. “I will inform you all tomorrow. I need to discuss this with Ashton.” They all left the room and my father started to walk out as well. “Adam, wait.” His back was facing Valerie but I saw the small smile that crept onto his lips. He turned around and said “Yes?” “Where were you?” she asked. “I was running late on a patrol trip.” Valerie didn’t seem convinced by him but dismissed him anyways. My father had always been easy to trust but also a very convincing liar.
