The day was going by smoothly. When the first bell rang, Saundra took me to the office to get my schedule for my classes. She begged to compare schedules; and we did. We have gym class together. "We have a class together!" She grinned. "Yeah, we do." I replied coolly. She bobbed her head up and down then just smiled. Saundra was an awfully happy person. Saundra went to speak with the ladies at the front desk. They exchanged words and smiled and laughed several times. When she came back, she announced that the secretaries had given us the first period to tour the school. It was kind of them, in my past experience at high schools, they usually just give you a map and your off on your own. Saundra must've been favoured by them. Second periods, I had co-ed gym; with Saundra. On my walk to the gym, I saw a small boy who looked like a freshman, getting pushed around by who I was guessing was a senior. Faded Shadows are immortal; we don't age immensely for decades, and once we reach a certain age, we stop aging all together. The scenario was often seen throughout my years at high schools, but not as often anymore. When I neared the scene, I grabbed the senior by his football jacket and pulled him back from the freshman boy. Even though I was a “junior” who’s to say I can’t teach him a lesson. “What the hell is your problem?” The senior asked me. “Obviously that’s a question I should be asking you.” I was about half a head taller than him but he obviously takes high school grade rankings more seriously than size. When a small crowd started to gather around us the senior started to turn red. I hated getting involved with these kinds of people, but it annoys me greatly when I see assholes such as the senior. He pulled his arm back in what seemed like years and tried to throw his fist at my jaw. Easily, I grabbed his wrist and threw his arm down to his side. Grabbing his shirt and pulling him close to my face by his collar I said “Stop picking on the kid or I’ll make today a hard day for you.” I let him go with a slight push and walked away from the scene. With only a couple of minutes left until the bell to get to class would ring, I rushed to the gym. The freshman scurried away to whatever class he was supposed to be at, far away from the senior and I. When I heard loud, clumsy footsteps coming up behind me, I knew that it was the senior agian. I assumed that he didn’t understand what I had told him. People always say "try and make your first impression on people your best" but when there are people you just can’t stand, it makes it hard. A larger crowd started to follow as the senior came running from behind me. Pretending that I didn’t notice him, I continued to walk. At the last second when I sensed that he was about to throw another punch at me;at my skull, I whipped my body around, struck out my flat palm to where his fist was heading and his fist collided with my hand. The senior pulled back with shock, shaking his hand and holding his arm in pain. I shook my head and calmly said “I guess you didn’t get the memo.” Taking one step towards where he was standing I told spoke to him again, “Back off.” I coolly walked away and this time, the senior stayed where he was. The crowd started to part but chattered among themselves. As I've said, I can deal with a lot, but when it comes to high school my patience is close to none. The bell rang for class and I had just walked into the gym. Once everybody had changed into suitable gym wear, the gym coach gathered everyone together. “We have a new student starting at the school today and I expect everyone to give him a warm welcome.” The coach said. I rolled my eyes slightly but smiled at the coach and said “Thanks.” When Saundra came into view, she eagerly waved at me. I waved back. When I turned back around to face the teacher, I spotted Becca walking towards me. God she looked so beautiful. Her legs looked smooth under her short, black yoga shorts. She had her hair pulled back in a high ponytail that made her face stand out even more. When she saw me, she smiled and her dimples came into view. Her eyes lit up. “Hey Silas” Her voice was soft and sweet. “Hey” I walked up to her and give her a hug. She smiled again and walked pass me to go next to her friends. “Okay, for a warm up, run 3 laps around the track then come meet me in the center of the field.” The coach said to everyone in the room. We all nodded and went out through the gym doors to the outside football field. I started to run around the track and felt somebody tap my shoulder. Still running, I turned my head see Becca running alongside me. “You had a choice not to take gym in 11th grade yet you did. I’m guessing you like to run?” She gave a light laugh and “Yeah, I’ve always liked to run. What about you?” “Yeah you could almost say that I have an immortal love for exercise.” She laughed again and it was my turn to ask another question. “Are you in any teams? Because I know for a fact that you’re not on the cheerleading squad so you can’t say that.” She gave me a light punch in the arm. “You two stop flirting and pick up the pace!” I heard the coach yell. I started running a little faster and continued to talk. “I’m on the track team for 100m, 200m, 400m and 100 by 400 metres.” I grinned and she said “What?” “I think you should join the cheerleading squad again.” I said to her. “Why?” She asked. “Because I’m thinking of trying out for the football team.” I replied giving her a wink. We finished our 3 laps around the track and got some water as the last few people finished their last lap. Saundra walked up to me and said “If you’re going to joining the football team, I suggest you talking to coach, now.” I nodded and thanked her for telling me. I guess she overheard my conversation with Becca. “No problem. Just try not to insult anyone on the team, coach loves the football jocks. They’re practically his children.” I laughed and said “Sure thing.” When everyone was done and hydrated, the coach called us to the middle of the field.
