I smiled dramatically when I had told her that she had to join the cheerleading team if I made the football team. To my surprise, instead of saying no, she said "You're on Michelson." I had a feeling that she sort of wanted to join cheerleading again because I have already told her that I was going to make the team for sure. I didn't mean to boast on purpose but it is true, football was one of my favourite sports. Giving her another wink I walked back to the group of football players and Coach. "Alright listen up," Coach Carr said "This smart ass over here wants to join the team." He said nodding towards my direction. "He also thinks he can out match Bryan." Guessing that Bryan was the captain of the team, I looked over to who Coach was pointing at and confirmed my guess when I saw the C on his jersey. A few people laughed when Coach has said that, including Coach himself. I saw the boy that Becca was with earlier today. I believed his name was Jules. He gave me a cold stare and I turned my attention away from him and back to Bryan. "So, we are going to play a little one on one with him and Bryan for his tryout; assuming he knows what one on one is." I few people snickered but I ignored them and said "Sure, go for it." One of the kids said "That's sort of unfair isn't it?" His tone was teasing. Coach said "He asked for it, unless you want to back down?" I rolled my eyes and said "I haven't even seen his skills and I already know I can beat him." This time it was Bryan who spoke "Let's see if you're true to your words." Laughing I said "Count on it." And just like that we walked to the center of the field before even warming up and Coach blew the whistle. Before the guy even had time to react, I had grabbed the football and ran past him. He started to chase me down, trying to tackle me but I was too quick for him. I admit I was using a bit of my enhanced speed but I didn't use enough for it to be noticeable. Easily, I made a touchdown and when I picked the football back up and threw it to Coach, I walked pass Bryan and said "You look tired, maybe I'll take it down a notch." Grunting, Bryan said "Beginners luck." Laughing, I walked back to the center of the field. I took of my helmet and ran a hand through my hair. I saw Becca giving me two thumbs up and I curtseyed for her. It must've looked bizarre to see a boy in full football gear do a curtsey. She was laughing and I could see her smiling from meters away. Turning my attention away from Becca, Coach walked up to me and said "We're gonna play you guys best 3 of 5, if you lose, you're out of here. If you win, we'll test your throwing and catching, then maybe you'll get on the team." Without saying another word, Coach walked away. Without enhancing my speed or strength, we played the next round and I still won. It was 2-0 for me. Feeling as if I should let him win one, I did just that. It looked like I tried but mainly just let him win one in the kindness of my sportsmanship. I had to take a body chuck to the shoulder but it didn't hurt so I was fine. When we finished that round it was 2-1 and Bryan walked by me and said "See? Beginners luck." Ignoring his comment, we started the next round. Dodging his attempt to tackle me I ran with the football towards the end zone. Landing into the zone, I got another touchdown and I won the one on one. It took all the control inside me not to throw the football at Bryan's face. So instead of lashing out at his annoyingness, I walked straight to Coach and lightly tossed the ball at him. He looked shocked but he quickly recovered. Bryan on the other hand, didn't recover. He took off his helmet and threw it to the ground. Satisfied for the day, I took off my helmet as well and said "So, how about that jersey of mine?" Coach just stared at me and I laughed. Bryan finally walked over and Coach said "Shake hands." "Good game" I said smiling. "Good game." Bryan said, practically spitting the words out like poison. "Okay boys! Run around the field and then come join us and everyone else for a game." I went onto the track and started to run. I had a feeling that I earned some respect from the people who were my soon to be teammates. When I passed Becca she said "Good job!" I smiled and I cheekily told her, "Told you I didn't need luck." Then I kept running and I could feel her smile from behind.
