Driving back to my house, I smile was plastered onto my face. I felt like a little school girl who had a crush. I laughed at myself and continued down the road. I heard my phone ring and patted the inside of my jacket for my phone. Pulling it out, I answered the call while putting it on speaker and I placed it on the passenger seat. “Hello?” There was a moment of static on the other line but then a voice said “Is this Silas Michelson?” “Yes who is this?” The scratchy voice from the other line said “This is Joe.” The name didn’t ring a bell. “Joe from where?” “You don’t remember me? Man I guess it has been too long. I’m surprised you haven’t changed phone numbers yet. It’s Joe from LA? I’m Greg’s brother?” As if a switch went off I remembered him. “Oh hey Joe. What’s up man?” Joe was the brother of my friend from LA. We had hung out a few times and he was pretty chill but he was a drunky. I would have a few drinks with him here and there but each time I did, he always got drunk. He didn’t know about how I was supernatural and neither did Greg. “I’m in Niagara for a trip right now and I remembered you moved here. If you’re not busy, we should grab a drink sometime in the next few days. It has been 6 almost 7 years since I last saw you! I bet you haven’t aged a bit.” He was right about that. “I don’t know; I’ll give you a call if my schedule clears up.” “Sweet, see you then.” And then he hung up. Truth was that if I did meet up with him, he’d see that I really looked like I haven’t aged at all the in the last few days so he’d probably notice that something was up. So I had gone with the safe and told him I’d call him back. As I went up my drive way, I saw Troy standing on the steps of the front door. He looked extremely pissed. Stepping out of the car I said “Hey I’m sorry man, something popped up and I forgot to call.” “Were you with that chick Becca?” I looked down at my shoes and said “She called me to talk and...” “And you went to talk with her and ditched me yeah, I know.” “If you knew, why’d you ask?” “I wanted to hear you say it out loud so you’d know what an asshole you are.” I punched him in the arm and he laughed. “Next time you ditch me for a girl, at least let me know. You know I hate waiting for people.” “Sorry, it won’t happen again.” He laughed even more. “I’m not your mother, no need to go all sincere on me.” We both laughed. “So are we going to the building or not?” Troy looked relatively excited. “Yeah about that...” “What this time?” I raised my eyebrows and said “My mother wants to come along.” I told him about my mother’s plan and how she thinks it’d be good if she could come. “Well your mom is a pretty good fighter, we could bring her along.” Troy said. “Wow, you probably made her day.” He laughed again. As we walked into the room, I saw my mother standing in the kitchen making some tea. “Mom, we accepted your offer.” Her eyes lit up and she smiled brightly. “Alright, when are we leaving?” Checking the time, it read 1:18pm. “Now” My mother and Troy nodded and she went to go find some weapons. “You don’t really need any weapons Erin.” My mother turned to Troy “Just because we are superior doesn’t mean we can’t be prepared.” She replied flatly. I shrugged and followed her to our storage room in our basement. My mother turned on the light to our 90’s designed basement; the 1890s. Back then, our entire house had looked like that. We have always liked the 1890s style so we kept our basement like that. I headed over to the wall of the basement and crouched down to the bottom right corner. I pressed my finger to the corner and the wall started to move. The basement might be designed as the 1890s but the technology down here is still modern. The fingerprint scanner opened the door to our weapons storage room. Only my family was able to unlock the wall, and only my family and Troy’s family knew about it. The wall slid forwards then to the side to reveal a large room filled with weapons. The lights in the room lit up and we walked into the room. Troy followed us in and started to wander around and look for weapons. “The gun section is over there.” I said pointing to the end of the room. “But the guns with the wooden bullets are on the floor beneath us.” I walked to the back of the large room and down the stairs. The weapons room was designed to be very modern and tech like. The moment we entered the second floor, I saw the vampire weaponry section. For a family who rarely liked using weapons, we had a hell of a lot of them. Walking over to the section, I picked out a few weapons and slid them around the waist of my jeans. I chose a pistol gun filled with wooden bullets and one small wooden stake. I was very good at aiming so I was confident I didn’t need extra bullets and I only brought the stake because the vampire hideout probably had no wood in it. A wooden stake to the heart would kill a vampire the moment it touched its heart. My mother brought the same things I did but brought an extra stake. Troy just grabbed a pistol because he was able to infiltrate pain on anyone. Walking back to the main level of the basement, I locked the entrance again and headed for the kitchen. “Okay, are we ready to go now?” I asked. “Yup” Troy replied and my mother nodded. I took a sip of the tea my mother was making and so did she. “Let’s go.” We headed out the door and into my car.
