I've literally said thank you ever time I write a note but I am truly grateful if you are reading this book. Like I've mentioned before, it is my first book so I'd love to hear some feedback. Thank you so much! P.S. If you aren't really intruiged in the book so far, if you keep reading... it gets better! xxx Mona

I found myself below a window of a large house, hours later after the incident. The room had lights dancing along the walls; the light was coming from a screen. I gracefully climbed the tree next to the house and peered through the window. I realized how stalkerish I looked and promised myself to never do this again. I saw the same tanned girl sitting in a bean bag chair staring at her TV. Her long brown hair was straight and fell loosely down her back. I caught I glimpse of her round brown eyes that stood out the most from her face. Whenever she laughed the small dimples on her cheek became more visible as her smile enlarged into a grin. She was beautiful.

What?

No, no, no, no... She's a Seeing One and mortal!

I shook my head slowly and took a deep breath. I dared to take one more look at the girl and there was no denying that she was beautiful. I swiftly jumped down onto the ground and away from the window I was holding onto. She may be mortal but she was very gorgeous. I've only ever met one other mortal who I've fallen in love with. She was a talented, beautiful and intelligent. To find a human with a combination like that, is rare. But the more I thought about the girl in her room, the more I thought she resembled my once, love of my life.

. . .

It was morning and I didn't feed yesterday; at all. I felt weaker then my usual self. I knew I needed a soul that was energetic to fully satisfy my hunger, I found her not long later. She was sitting on a park bench reading a novel; alone. "Hi there" I said cheerfully to the girl. She looked up from her book and smiled politely. "Hi!" she replied even more cheerful than I was. "What book are you reading?" I asked trying to sound interested. "Hush Hush." She replied kindly "by Becca Fitzpatrick." She added. I glanced at her, then down at the book. "I've read that book before, the series is phenomenal." "Yeah it is!" I smiled back at her cheery face. "Saundra Nickolas." She stated and stuck out her hand. I didn't want to ruin her mood so I said "Silas Michelson." Her eyes widened in shock. "You're from the Michelson's family!?" "Yeah, you know us?" "Not really, my mom is the librarian of the central library, and she is loves reading about top financial workers and families." She took a small pause and said, "Isn't your mom a doctor and your dad part of the FBI?" Slightly weirded out by her knowledge I wanted to change the subject. "Yeah they are. What about your father? Does he do anything?" "Well he's a police officer. He does mostly investigations, patrolling and stuff but he sort of isn't really logical. He... believes in things." Saundra told me with a tone in voice you'd use when you're disappointed in someone. "Really, like what?" I was actually sort of interested in what she had to say; but mostly just curious. "Well police officers are supposed to be realistic and all but he thinks supernatural creatures or something, are actually real." She said, rolling her eyes. I shrugged. "Maybe they are. I mean I could be a demon or something and you would never even know until it was too late." "Ha-ha. Very funny but it's true." I held up my hands in surrender and said "I wasn't judging you!" "Really? Because I never asked if you were." I smirked and said "Smart." She smiled. "Or you're just stupid." I laughed at her small joke and stared at her light green eyes. Beneath her eyes I saw her lively soul jumping around with energy, I felt my stomach clench and growl. I was terribly hungry but I wanted to know more about her father; and mother. If somebody was obsessed in researching, reading and most importantly believing in supernaturals, they are bound to find out the truth about my family. Even if others didn't believe in them, the believers would find a way to prove themselves right. They could try to capture us and force the truth on others. We were intelligent, immortal and strong, but not invincible; even against humans. I couldn't let any mortal find out about our existence, if they knew, my kind would never be able to roam freely on the earth ever again. Her parents made quite the team too. Her mother knows of our wealth and how odd it is to be so wealthy for one lifetime. She is basically obsessed with our family. Her father actually believes in immortals so that is the greatest step to discovering immortals in general! Plus, he is a policeman and that he has access to investigation files and supplies. It's a good thing my father is in the FBI, he is a higher rank then her father so it's easier to hide things from him. I finally realized that I'd been staring at her for quite a long time so I looked away and ran my hand through my black hair. "Umm... how come I never see you around?" She asked and I looked back up at her face and replied with "I'm homeschooled-" But because I now had some "business" to deal with, I decided to change my mind. "- but I might go to a public High School to finish the rest of the junior year and maybe senior year too. I've heard that senior year is the best. If I am going to have a good senior year, I might as well make some friends the year before." "Oh my god! You're a junior?! Me too! What high school are you planning on going to?" I wasn't surprised when she confirmed my thoughts of that she was a junior. "Probably Century High School, what school do you go to?" She was grinning so much it looked like her cheeks were glued to her enormous smile. "I go to Century High! Maybe if you decide to go there I can show you around." I tried to look excited so I gave her a grin and said "Well I'll see you around then." She nodded and smiled. What a sight that would be to people walking by. "Here..." She added nervously showing me the screen of her phone. "Umm this is my phone number and um if you want any help with figuring out stuff about the school give me a call." Instead of writing down her number, I dialed mine into her phone and told her to text me so I could add her. She smiled and said a cheery goodbye, then left. While I was walking down the path of the park, I realized that I still haven't hunted yet. I saw a girl with black slick hair pulled into a pony tail jog by. She had her ear buds in and was nodding along to the music. I tuned into what she listening to and conferred it was deafening load. So, faster than the human eye could see, I stepped right in front of her and pulled her ear buds out. I gave her a devilish grin and said "Don't you know that it's not good for your ears to listen to music so loud?" And before she knew it, I took a long deep breath and I could feel the textures of the air changing as the girl's soul smoothly slid from her and into my body. She let out one small gasp before she fell limp in my hands. Checking to make sure that the park was vacant, I drew open a cut on her neck with my finger and blood started to sputter out. The neck vain was a large vain that popped out when the head is tilted, the blood source there is one of the largest veins in a human body, but the thigh vein is the largest. I didn't want to waste any fragment of energy I needed since I had already deprived myself from a soul for a day. Lifting her neck to my mouth, I didn't waste anymore of her blood and quickly drank the remaining blood from her body. I felt her heart slowly stop beating from its lack of blood and then I heard it flutter and then stop all together. Carefully, I laid her down casually under a tree with her eyes closed in a sitting position. Smiling from satisfaction, I slowly walked away as if I had just passed a tired jogger taking a rest under a tree. As I walked, I could still taste the irony of her blood on my tongue. Souls are my mains source of survival, but blood is a craving as well.

. . .

Blood. Ah, how that word rings in my ears like a song. Though souls are what keep me alive, who is to say we can't have a drink here and there. Blood is sort of like a second option for Faded Shadows. We love the taste of it but it isn't completely a must have. We can survive years without blood but every year we'd feel the noticeable down grade in our health and physical body changes. Our hearing, sight, and other enhanced abilities would be decreased intensely though out the years. It is best to drink at least one pint a day or more. Drinking blood is like eating food to human and feeding off souls is like drinking water for them. If a human only eats food and doesn't drink water, they'll die far quicker than if it was the other way around. We don't have souls so we rely on feeding on souls. We produce our own blood but not as much blood as humans, there for we need the extra boost to stay healthy. Sure it may be cruel to kill for or own feeding prepossess we don't just to it for fun, we do it to survive. It is just like how humans kill animals for food. All existing, "living" things feed on some sort of nutrients that is below them in the food chain. People always assume that if you drink blood, you're automatically a vampire. So, I am going to say this once and only once, Faded Shadows are nothing like Vampires. Vampires are creatures that have once existed as a human but have died with the blood of a vampire in their system. The first ever vampires were made from a spell of a very powerful witch. That is how they came to be on the earth. But, they still started off as humans. Faded Shadows are much more complex, powerful and we never actually existed as a so called "living thing." Faded Shadows never die of old age, we are immortal, and as some people say; we live forever. Faded Shadows have been on the earth long before humans and even dinosaurs. Like the mystery of the universe, nobody quite knows how we came to exist. There have been theories and stories about our existence but all those theories all end in a dead end. Nobody can truly figure out how we came to be; not even our own kind. Some immortal creatures; including vampires, can turn humans into their kind but Faded Shadows must be born as one, for we are one of the most powerful immortal creatures, so it is the gift given only to the blood born.

. . .

"Hey, you!" I turn my head to see a police officer heading my way. Of course I wasn't afraid of the human but I decided I needn't any trouble tonight so I said, "Yes officer? Is there anything I can help you with?" He continued to walk over to where I was standing. "Sorry if I made it sound as if there was something wrong but I just saw you-" Oh hell, don't tell me he saw me kill that girl. Damnit, I'm still in my visible form. Now they can see the finger prints I left on her. I need to go back and clean that up. "-talking to my daughter." Oh. "You must be Mr. Nickolas!" I tried to sound as innocent and excited as possible; the act was getting annoying, but at least it's believable. He nodded his head slowly and awkwardly said "Are you two um, together? Because she didn't tell me anything about you..." "Oh, well I'm sorry if you thought that, we are just friends. I might be going to her school soon so I thought I might as well get to know her. She is a lovely young lady." "Oh, well it's good to know she is still making new friends. She is a very social girl you know..." He talked on and on about Saundra. After ten minutes of his non-stop talking, he finally said "Well it was nice to meet you Silas. I hope to see you again someday; you seem like a nice boy." I smiled at him and said "Thank you. Have a nice day sir." I turned around and started to walk back to the park. "I really need to get my head together, Jesus Christ I have got to remember what form I am in!" I mumbled to myself. I spotted the girl I put under the tree and she looked like she was just taking a nap. People walked by her not noticing that she was dead. It was a good thing too because if anyone saw that she was dead and took her to the police they'd find my finger prints in no time. Every Faded Shadow can make whatever they're touching invisible when they are in their true form. Some Faded Shadows also have special gifts. I don't mean presents but talents. Thankfully I am one of the Faded Shadows with a gift. Both of my parents have gifts as well. My gift is that I can compel anybody. Whether they are a Faded Shadow, a human or any other creature, even immortal ones; I'm able to compel them. That gift is very useful and I am so grateful for it. My mom has the gift of being able to make people see things; I guess that is where I get my compulsion gift from. My father and I don't really have anything in common between our gifts. He is able to morph himself into any existing creature. But the catch is that he can only morph into things that already exist. I looked down at the girl. After thinking about what to do with her body, I went into my true form and took the girl in my arms. She then became invisible to the human eye. Her neck was still stained with her blood and the thick gash on her neck was barely noticeable. I took her into a small forest and started a little fire. I threw her body into the fire and waited until only things left of her were ashes. When I walked a back to the sidewalk I caught sight of the Seeing One.
