Writing in Silas's point of view is so much fun because that's where most of the imagination takes place. This chapter was really fun so I wish for you to read this chapter with joy. Please share and vote, thank you. xxx Mona
I sat in a beanbag chair reading a book of myths and legends of supernatural creatures while waiting for Becca to enter the library. Flipping through the pages, I found nothing on Faded Shadows. My kind seriously now how to stay hidden. It was interesting reading about the history, strengths and weaknesses of other creatures. While looking through the different types of supernatural creatures, I noticed that almost all of them were real except for things like the launch-ness monster and unicorns. Humans have mistaken so many things for other nonexistent creatures. Though I can never clarify fully my theory that those creatures don’t exist, I can almost guarantee they are fake. When I was reading about Banshees, I saw a figure walk into the library and to the computer section. The figure was tall and a male. When he had entered the library the texture in the air changed slightly and started to shift towards the man. Slowly getting up from my seat, I walked closer to the man as stealthy as possible. When I turned the corner to where I thought he was, all I saw were rows of computers and a few people sitting at them. Pausing to let my senses travel through the air, I could still feel the uneasiness in the fabric of the air. Taking my best guess at what was going on; I decided that whoever it was they were using glamour. Glamour is something that some inhuman or immortal creatures have that can make almost anyone, immortal or human, see things that aren’t there. I had spent many years of my life perfecting the senses to oversee glamour. Taking in a deep breath, I closed my eyes and let my senses wander around the library. Trying to indicate where the glamour was coming from, I felt a warm heat near the row of books next to me. I carefully walked to the next row and saw the user of the glamour. It was as I saw before, a tall male wearing all black and had dirty blond hair that was matted onto his face. I pretended to walk by him and not notice that he was there. When I passed him by an inch, he stiffened and quickly turned around, grabbed him by his shirt collar in one swift motion. “What are you doing here?” I hissed quietly in his face. I could tell that he was a Faded Shadow but held my grip firmly on his shirt. “Calm down Silas.” He spoke with confidence. So he knew who I was; great. I changed my hold from my left arm to my right arm and grabbed him by his neck. “Answer my question.” I said firmly. When he shook his head, I held him up higher. I could tell that he was now having trouble breathing. “Your... dad... sent me.” “Why?” I asked, loosening my grip on his throat. “He said you were acting odd so he told me to... come and keep an eye on you.” Making a silent note in my head to talk to my dad about his trust issues later, I let go of the man who was turning red. He slumped to the ground as soon as he hit the floor. At contact with the ground, the texture in the air shifted and went back to normal. “Tell my dad that, if he’s going to send somebody to spy on me, he needs to make sure to tell them that I can see through glamour.” I said to the man. “That would’ve been useful information.” The man mumbled. I smiled in triumph and walked out the isle and made sure nobody had seen anything that had just went on. All was clear and I sat back down in my seat. A moment later, Becca walked into the library smiling ear to ear when she saw me. Her happiness reflected onto me when I we made eye contact and she sat down on the beanbag chair next to me. “So what’s up?” She asked. “I never really got to talk to you that much before so I thought we’d get to know each other.” I replied. She nodded, smiling. “Can I ask you something Silas?” “Yeah, of course. What’s up?” I said smiling as well. “Why are do you go out of your way to be kind to me?” I laughed at her question but answered with “Well first off, you’re kind and when I first met you, you gave me the impression that I would enjoy spending time with you. So when people interest me, I am automatically what you like to say, kind to them.” Looking as if she was relieved I gave a light laugh and said “Oh, and ‘cause you’re hot.” She gave me a light punch in the arm and laughed. “So now I get to ask you a question right?” She nodded and I asked "Do you believe in the supernatural?" I knew the question was random but she didn’t seem caught off guard by it. She shook her head and said "No way. Things like that don't exist. Why, do you think they're real?" I smiled and said "Yeah, I do. You never really know if there is an immortal creature in your present." She laughed at my comment, waving it off as if what I said was absurd."What other crazy things do you believe in?" She said between giggles. "Well first off, I believe that the eyes are the windows to somebody's soul." She looked at me blankly and asked "You’re kidding right?” When the expression on my face showed that I wasn’t kidding, she raised a brow and said “Okay… well let’s say that were to be true. Why is it that when I look at your eyes, I never see the flicker of your 'soul' Silas?" I looked at my shoes and took a glance at her face again. Her brow was furrowed into a serious stare. The feeling in the room suddenly took a sharp turn from fun to serious. "Not everyone can detect the soul in somebody's eyes. But sometimes, there is no soul in the body." She looked at me a confused expression on her face. I could tell that her mind was turning and trying to think of times where she’s come across a person with “no soul”. A moment later she jumped up to her feet. I was momentarily shocked from her sudden movement. If I had thought that my question was out of context, hers was far more random. “Where you the one that came into the coffee shop when I was with Jules, Elena and Lux?” She questioned. I knew exactly what she meant but either way I said, “You need to be more specific than that.” She sighed and fell back into her chair. “Everyone thought I was going crazy when I screamed! Do you seriously not know what I’m talking about?” I shook my head, the less she knew about me, the safer she was. “YOU. WERE. STARING. AT. ME. WHEN. I. TURNED. AROUND.” She took a long break between each word and I could tell that even if I denied that it was me, she wouldn’t believe me so I told her the truth. “Yes that was me.” She moved her hands from her lap to her head in less than a second and covered her face. Through her hands she said “I thought I was going crazy then!” I found this kind of amusing and let out a small laugh. “This isn’t funny!” She exclaimed while moving her hands off of her face. “How did you leave so quickly then? I literally blinked and you were gone!” Quickly thinking of a way to answer besides the obvious answer of “I’m immortal! AKA supernatural!” I went with saying “You must’ve misjudged the timing of when I left.” I said trying to sound as confident as possible. I hated lying to Becca but it was a necessary thing to say. A human’s weakness is that they tend to try and believe things that suit their preferences. Becca obviously thought that what she was saying was impossible to her so she easily accepted my suggestion in what happened. She slowly nodded trying to understand what had happened that day. I didn’t want to compel her again because that would be violating her memories and just like lying to her, I would only do it when necessary. “I guess you’re right... there’s no other explanation...” She sighed and she said “Sorry for lashing out at you, I don’t know what answer I was expecting...” Her voice drifted into a soft whisper and I took her hands in mine and said “Don’t apologize, you did nothing wrong, what you said is a statement that you believed in. It’s a human thing to say. Wanting to be right is normal.” I hated lying to her but like I said, it was necessary. She was obviously surprised with what I had said. When I held her hand, she had been shocked as well. When I finally let go of her warm hands, her eyes flash with emotion. Her eyes wandered between me and her pleading for our hands to be connected again. I felt the same. Before she could say a word, I pulled her into to a hug and held her there for a while and whispered in her ear “I’ll see you after school?” pulling away from our embrace, I stood up and so did she. She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and smiled. “Yeah, I’ll be there.” She had a hint of excitement in her voice so I just smiled at her. Her voice was sweet and soft. I noticed that every time she spoke about something she enjoyed, her eyes would shine was interest. It was something I had noticed about her when we first met. When she spoke to me, that glimmer in her eye showed and I was grateful that I could make her eyes shine. If I could have anything in the world, it was to make Becca Thomas happy. We said our goodbyes and just on time, the bell rang.
