The moment I left Becca’s house I drove my car home. But instead of going inside, I took off my jacket and ran. I easily shifted into my natural form and continued to run. I didn’t know where I was headed but I didn’t stop. My feet kept on moving and I picked up my speed. My surroundings blurred and the wind whipped my face. The air was cool and calming, that’s what I loved about summers in Canada. During the day it was hot but the nights were always cool and refreshing. When I halted to a stop, I found myself on Tanner Rd. There was a sign at the start of the road that read Hayden Houses. The entire street was empty and only empty patches of dirt and grass was present. I guessed from looking at the sign and the condition the street was in that somebody was planning on building a neighbourhood here. It was a perfect place for the vampires to hide their glamoured building. I put my hands in my pockets and walked towards the front door. I noticed that a few lights were on in the building; on the third floor. When I went to open the door, it was locked. They must’ve noticed Adam’s body; finally. I stepped back from the door and glanced back up at the third floor. There was a window that was open on the fourth floor; perfect. There were only five total levels of the building but the base was quite long. Gathering up strength in my legs, I bent my knees slightly and jumped. My hands grabbed onto the window sill and I lifted myself through the small opening. When I landed on the ground, I noticed that the fourth floor was extremely different from the other three floors. It was filled with shelves, papers, files, and there was only one hallway; which was the hallway in-between two rooms that lead to the stairs and elevators. It separated the two rooms on the fourth floor. Both rooms were filled and filed with information about supernatural creatures. The room on the right was filled with only information about immortals but it was larger than the other room. The room on the left was divided in two as well. One half of the left room was information and legends about Faded Shadows and the other half of the room were on vampires. Looking around the shelves, I saw that in the small room it looked like a lot of information, but the vampires really didn’t know much about Faded Shadows. Looking around the room, I saw a safe that was built into the wall. I placed my ear against the safe and turned the spinner a few times then slowly spun it until I heard clicks. Stepping back, I opened the safe and inside was small book that had papers sticking out from all of the sides. Taking the book out of the safe, I flipped through its pages. It was mainly on the similarities of Faded Shadows and vampires. Thinking that the book might be of use, I closed the safe and held the book in my hands. If Faded Shadows were ever going to attack the building; we’d need to know the routes of the rooms inside out. I walked towards the section of the room that had the stairs and elevator. Running up the stairs, I arrived on the fifth floor. Unlike the first four floors that were decorated with black and white furniture, it was bland and painted pale orange. There was a large mat placed across the room. The entire floor was one large arena. The sides were covered with weapons and there were a few chairs scattered around the front of the room. I guessed that this room was their training room. Going up the last flight of stairs, I ended up outside on the rooftop. The entire roof top was flat, plain and stained; with blood. There were benches placed on the sides of the rooftop. Looking around the space, I assumed that the rooftop was used as an arena. I heard somebody coming up the stairs so I quickly ran to the edge of the building and jumped off. I felt the wind on my face and in my hair as I fell from five stories down. The wind swirled around me as I landed steadily on the ground. Every movement I made in my natural form was like the wind moving around the air. So when I saw a group of vampires walking into the building, I stood still and observed. They all seemed like they were in their late twenties and walked as if they were rulers of the world. When I saw Valerie comes into view I stiffened. She looked around outside and looked straight at me as if she could see me. I knew that was impossible because I was in my invisible state. She unlocked the front doors and the vampires filed into the building. I hated the risk I was taking but it was necessary. Running towards the entrance, I raced through the doors. “What was that?” Somebody asked. “Must’ve been the wind” Another person replied. I sighed in relief from their oblivion. “Alright, I know you don’t know exactly what is going on right now but that is what you’re here for. I will know tell you what’s going on.” Valerie told everyone in the group of vampires. Damnit. I couldn’t let her tell them about faded Shadows. Too many vampires knew about us already and no more needed to know. Slowly, I grabbed one of the vampires and placed my hand over their mouth and my other arm wrapped around his neck. I pulled him onto the ground. He had been standing at the back of the group and nobody noticed his disappearance. Not wanting to risk anything, I had one hand still covering his mouth and his back on the wall to keep him standing. My other hand reached for his heart. I felt my fingers make contact with a warm, gooey, organ. Grabbing onto it, I clutched it in my hand and pulled. Dropping his body from my grip, my right hand was covered in blood and his heart was in my hand. I dropped his heart onto the ground and watched it roll to the side of his body. The sight of blood made my mouth water but I ignored the hunger for now. Taking the shirt he was wearing in my hands, I wiped my hand and finger clean of his blood. Throwing back at his body, I continued to walk. I knew that if the other vampires saw this, they’d assume that it was a Faded Shadow and only grow more hatred towards us. In frustration to save some work for my people, I grabbed his body and heart and opened the door. I threw his remainders outside and left the tarred up shirt in my hands. Lighting it on fire, I threw the shirt onto his body. The fire immediately danced along his body and burned his skin. Turning my back on his burning body, I followed the rest of the vampires to the third floor.
