The battle with the vampires was over. Troy had been extremely exhausted and bruised from his earlier stunt. Killing off more than a dozen vampires with his gift, caused him to have less energy than we thought. Even so, he fought like a warrior. My parents had finished off the battle with minor injuries. Though, to a human those injuries would be life threatening. My father had a couple broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, a broken ankle and several wounds and bruises. Most of his bones were already healed but they were still fragile. My mother was slightly luckier, hence her gift. She was able to shove scenarios into a few minds of the vampires and deliver hits when they were oblivious to her threat. At the end of the battle, she had a broken arm, a dislocated knee, she’d broken her neck a few times and a plethora of cuts and bruises. When the battle was called off, I had a severe concussion but I was fine to move around even though it was nauseating. There was a long gash across my leg that was still struggling to heal, several broken joints and far too many open wounds to count. The battle had been successful, even though the vampires suffered most of the losses; we lost a few warriors ourselves. There were less than a dozen of Faded Shadows dead, I grieved for them but I didn’t know the Shadows who died very well. Even though I didn’t know them very well, every Faded Shadow life is significant. The grief I felt for the lives we lost of my people was incomparable to the pain Becca felt for Jules. Why Becca always ended up with having pain is beyond my understanding. The only thing I could do was ease the pain. I soothed her, kissed her and did anything I could to help make the pain fade away. Grief had struck her hard and painfully but she was a strong woman, and I knew she would get past it. She would never forget Jules and neither will I but she will learn to move on from the despair.
