Minutes had passed since Silas left my room. I hadn’t moved from my spot on my bed in twenty minutes. My parents didn’t come into my room, ask me anything or even call my name from down stairs. Surprisingly, they didn’t hear anything from my talk with Silas. Silas’s theory about us having a link baffled my mind and left me thinking about all that he said and all that I saw. My eyes felt crusty and my skin was stained with my tears. Another ten minutes passed when I finally able to muster up the strength to stand up. Grabbing my pajamas, undergarments and a towel, I walked to the washroom to take shower. Changing my mind last minute, I went to the tub and filled the bath with water. I stripped of my clothes and put my foot into the water to check if it was warm. After waiting until the tub was three quarters full, I through in a few cubes of bubbling bath soap. I lowered myself into the tub and let the forming bubbles surround me. Grabbing a hand full of lavender scented bath salts, I rubbed the gritty texture across my neck, chest and arms. Closing my eyes, I sunk further down into the hot water. I sat up to turn off the faucet and lied under the water’s surface. All the sound was drowned out and I tried to clear my head of all thoughts. Staying under the calming water for as long as I could, I tried to relax. When I finally resurfaced, my eyes were still closed. Taking in a deep breath, I leaned my head against the back of the tub where there was a waterproof pillow. Feeling less tense, I opened my eyes. When I did, I saw a female body, fully dressed in clothes floating face down in the tub. I screamed. Not again I thought as tears started to pour form my face again. “Becca, what’s wrong?” I heard my father worriedly yell from down the stairs. “Nothing, it’s just a spider!” I replied to him while I stared at the body. The body had long blond hair that was floating freely in the water. The entire body was intact and there was no sign of blood anywhere. I jumped out of the tub and wrapped my towel around myself. My breathing started to quicken and soon, I was hyperventilating. Willing myself to calm down, I took in large desperate gulps of air as if I had been drowning. I forced myself to slow down my breathing until it was steady and tamed. Leaving the washroom with my clothes, I hurried to get changed. After getting dressed, I sat down on my bed. I closed my eyes again and was consumed once again by darkness. Out of the water and dry, my mind was back to swirling with questions. He said that I had a gift, but what was it? Unless being able to see murders is a gift, he was talking about something else. The only way I’d be able to get an answer to my question was if I spoke to Silas again. Sighing in frustration, I got up from my bed and walked back to the washroom. The body was gone from the tub so I reached into the water and let the water drain out. I heard my phone ring so I quickly went back to my room and picked it up. “Becca its Elena” She sounded worried. “Elena, hey, what’s wrong?” “I’m a few streets down from your house, by your restaurant. I was going out for a walk...” Her voice started to shake. “It’s not good Bec, come meet me at Dishes Delight.” Without asking any questions, I changed clothes, grabbed my coat and ran down the stairs. “Mom I’m going to go check on the restaurant, I’ll be back in a few.” I heard a series of words coming from the family room but kept on running. I jumped into my car and drove to DD.
. . .
“Becca!” I heard Elena call my name as I walked into the building. There were still people eating at a few tables but it was almost empty because closing time was in half an hour. Elena sat at the bar section of the room and I quickly walked over to her. “There’s a body just around the corner.” My face paled and she lowered her voice even more. “I’m guessing it’s the doing of a Faded Shadow.” My face registered her words with shock. “How do you know?” I asked. “Like every one of their victims, there is red hand prints burned on their skin.” I suddenly felt sick to my stomach and my eyes wandered around the room to see if anybody was looking our way. When I saw that nobody had been paying attention to us, I said, “Silas is the killer of all the missing people.” Elena didn’t even look surprised. “I know” was all she said. “How?” She let out a small laugh. “I put one and one together and figured it out.” I rolled my eyes and asked “What are we going to do?” She shook her head “I don’t know but we shouldn’t get involved with it. I just thought that you should know about this Bec.” “Yeah” Minutes of silence passed between us. “I think Silas and I broke up.” I blurted. She raised her eyebrows and I continued. “Well I don’t really know if we were ever officially together but we had a fight today.” Elena tried to hide it but ended up laughing hysterically at my confession. “I’m so sorry Bec but didn’t you two just make up today?” She steadied her words but was still giggling. “It’s complicated.” I said flatly. Plastering on a straight face Elena said “It must’ve been bad.” I nodded. She gave me a hug. “Sorry for laughing, I hope you feel better.” I just nodded again. She hugged me tighter. “You should call Silas and tell him about your... find. It might not have been him who did it.” I couldn’t help but sound slightly hopeful that Silas hadn’t been the one who killed the person Elena had described. “Don’t worry, I will.” Attempting a smile, I said “How about we grab a drink?” Elena grinned at my suggestion. I turned my attention towards the person at the bar, his name was Joe. He worked at my mother’s restaurant for a few years now and my mother had told him that it was fine to let a few of my friends and I occasionally have a drink. My mother had been specific to clarify that we weren’t allowed too much alcohol. “Joe, can I can a few drinks?” He walked over to us and ran a hand through his light brown hair. He was in his mid twenties and about 6 feet tall. “What can I get you girls?” Elena eagerly said “A Martini please.” Joe nodded “What about you Becca” I looked over to Elena and asked “I’m driving so is it okay if we stay a little longer?” “Why?” “I’m just going to get something light.” “Sure, we can catch up on girl life not freaky Silas life.” I let out a laugh. “Okay then, Joe can I have a light glass of Sex on the Beach?” He smiled and said “Give me a few minutes girls.” We nodded and watched him make our drinks. Easily preparing Elena’s Martini, he slid the cup towards her and she graciously took a sip. Joe put a small quantity of vodka in my drink and mixed all the other ingredients in. He shook the cocktail and then passed the cup to me and gave me a straw. “Thanks Joe.” Elena and I said together. Savouring the fruity taste of my drink, Elena and I talked about non supernatural related topics. It was nice to talk about something that didn’t send chills through my body. We spoke about the End of the Year dance and drank our drinks.
