I woke up with an ache in my neck. The events from last night flooded my head. I got out of bed and took a shower. I lived in a huge house that my parents had made so many years ago. My family was filled with riches because of our time on this earth. I lived on Amber Road. There were only a few houses on the street, but every house had incredibly large land. My house was almost 17 000 square feet. Every few decades, we upgraded the house to make it more fitting to the era. Even on the richest street in Sire City, our house was its biggest house. Though we could construct an even larger house, we had decided that enough attention was directed towards our family so we never moved homes. It had a large pool and the total land we owned around the house was massive. I knew the house as well as I knew the back of my hand. I was born and raised in that house, literally. My mother couldn’t risk giving birth at a human hospital so she guided my father to help her deliver me. I had many other siblings but none that were close. Each of us was probably centuries apart in age. My mother and my father have never been with anyone else except each other for hundreds and thousands of years. Only my mother, father and I lived in the house. When I had finished my shower it was about 8 o’clock in the morning. I dreaded the lack of sleep I got but when I smelt the coffee being brewed in the kitchen. I threw on black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt and put on a navy blue beanie. With my hands in my pockets, I walked down the stairs.

There was blood on my hands. Faces of horror flashed though my mind. I saw a glimpse of Becca lying on the ground, her hand clutching her side. “Silas!” Instantly, my head snapped up from the table. I looked up to see my mother Erin standing in front of me. She had long, wavy black hair and dark brown eyes. She had defined cheekbones, an oval head and large eyes. I inherited my father’s straight black hair and height. My mother was tall for a human woman at 5’10 and my father was 6’5. Though I was tall, my father was still taller by 2 inches. His eyes were also dark brown but had a grayish lining near the iris and the colour faded towards the middle. I wished I had inherited my father’s unique hazel eyes but I had my mother’s dark chocolate brown eyes that were also quite unique. They were dark but lighter brown swirled around in irises. In the dark or during an illusion, our eyes appeared as if they were almost black. It was frightening but also jaw dropping. An illusion to a Faded Shadow was when we were hunting and when our prey was found, they would see illusions. For example, my eyes, it was an intense quality of mine during an illusion. My victim would see black endless pits of nothing. As my thoughts from my dream drained out of my mind, I had realized that I fell asleep at the kitchen table and marble table that was once white and grey, was now covered with coffee. “Sorry...” She rolled her eyes and cleaned up the mess. “You need to learn that sleeping is meant to be on a bed, not a table.” I rolled my eyes and said “Yeah sorry.” My mother smiled at me. “What” “You’re just so much more mature now.” I laughed extremely hard. I was struggling to breathe and clutched my stomach from the laughter. This time my mother asked “What?” I kept laughing but when I was finally able to hold back the laughter I said “I’m 346 now! Of course I’m ‘mature’ now. I’m turning 347 this year so if I acted like a child, there would be something seriously wrong with me.” I mother cracked a smile “Even though you’ve lived for lifetimes already, you’re still way younger than I am and will always be my little boy.” I laughed again and she pulled me into a hug. “So what’s your schedule for today? It’s the weekend, so do you have any plans for today?” “Speaking of plans” I told my mom. “I was going to tell you this last night but I didn’t get the chance to.” She nodded. I didn’t want to tell her the entire story so I left out the part where I exposed myself to humans... “I met up with Troy last night to let out some steam. We came across a vampire and I was going to just get rid of him but Troy had thought otherwise. Long story short, the vampire confessed that there was a group of his friends gathered together to try and plot some sort of battle against us.” My mother’s eyes lit up with amusement. “Vampires, they’re trying to fight us?” “Well Troy and I aren’t exactly sure so we were going to go look for some answers.” I replied. “Did you kill the vampire you saw last night?” “No, we decided to leave him because his death could’ve caused a stir in his little society.” “That was smart. Where is this place?” “Tanner Rd in building 2254, it’s about 50 kilometers west from here.” My mother nodded again, her eyebrows furrowed in deep concentration. “I’m coming with you.” Her words shocked me. “What, why?” “Well it’s not that I doubt that you guys can’t handle the vampires but what if I can get close to them. They don’t know what I look and I can make them think I’m a vampire.” “Technically, they don’t know what we look like either. I compelled the vampire from last night to forget about us.” “Yes but are you able to make them think you’re a vampire?” My mother had a point. She was able to make others see things so it would be easy for her to pretend that she was a vampire. I took her preposition into thought. “I’ll think about it. Troy and I will just lurk around in the shadows this morning but I will get back to you later today.” She seemed satisfied so she walked away. When she left, I checked my phone to see 3 missed calls from Becca. I was shocked but decided to call her back. After 2 rings, she picked up. Her voice was soothing and beautiful and she said “Silas?” I felt a smile form on my lips and said “You called?” I heard her shuffling around on the other line. “Yeah... I was wondering if we could talk.” Trying to make things less awkward I said “Uh oh that’s never a good sign.” I heard her give a hesitant laugh. “Could you meet me at the central park in a few minutes?” “I actually had plans but...” Quickly she said “Oh no then, uh, that’s okay. I’ll see you on Monday.” Hearing the sound of her voice brought a kind of joy to me. I guess I’d have to let Troy know that I’d have some things to do before we went hunting for the vampires. “It’s alright, I can cancel. Meet there in a few?” “Yeah if that’s not a problem.” She replied. I said goodbye and hung up and left the house.
