As April turned into May, Michelle was feeling more like her old self as the black eyes, cuts and bruises were mostly gone while her other injuries from the accident were almost healed and she had gotten used to working with the cast on her arm, which made her feel more independent. She could now get dressed, put on makeup and do most household chores for herself, but still needed Shawn to wash her hair in the bathtub, which he didn't mind and she liked the added scalp massage so she didn't mind either. By mid-May she had put in hundreds of hours of work over the last 5 weeks to finish her senior project and was finally able to relax a little since she was ahead of schedule, other than working on the oral presentation she would be required to give during final crits with the department head and professors, as well as focus on studying for finals which would be given the week after final presentations.
On Richard Morrison's recommendation she had retained the services of the personal injury law firm Greenburg, Damiani & Smyth to represent her in court against the Farrell Trucking Company and had met twice with her attorney Antonio Damiani, whom Richard Morrison had described as being a pitbull in the courtroom and assured Michelle she would be in good hands whether the lawsuit was settled in or out of court. The insurance company had also signed off on the paperwork declaring the Jeep totaled, so after much coaxing, Shawn had persuaded her to go look at a few cars at local car dealerships in and around Providence. She still hadn't bought one since she didn't feel comfortable test driving any vehicles herself while she was still in a cast and cervical collar, so she remained somewhat dependent on him to drive her to her appointments to see her attorney and doctor or if she needed help with things like grocery shopping and carrying larger supplies for her project into the studio.
Her last appointment with Dr. Chen was scheduled for 2PM on the upcoming Friday to have her cast removed as the doctor had told her it could come off a week earlier than expected, since the hairline fracture of the radius and break in the ulna of her left arm was fully healed. She would then begin a few sessions with a physical therapist, Jon Specht, who had a facility in Providence and was recommended by Dr. Chen. Getting the cast removed before finals and Commencement was what she'd hoped for and made Michelle extremely happy to say the least, because she just wanted to get back to being able to move normally without the hindrance of the cast and the cervical collar, which she was hoping Dr. Chen would also tell her was no longer necessary to wear.
On Wednesday morning, Michelle sat at the back of Fleet Library and finished her last paper for Writing Approaches, which she had completed using voice dictation, but needed to tweak it somewhat, so she edited and proofread it twice before sending it. She had gotten used to writing her papers using vocal dictation fairly quickly but would be glad to get back to typing her papers as soon as possible, since she knew she'd have a lot of written work to do once she began her Masters in a month and was hoping the physical therapy sessions would help in that regard. Once she had submitted her paper, she left the library and headed over to the main office to tie up some loose ends before graduation and then to the Registrar's building to pick up some paperwork pertaining to her graduate classes that would start in June.
