Michelle and Shawn made their way home from a leisurely Saturday afternoon drive through the back roads of Rhode Island to see the beautiful autumn foliage, after stopping at a farmer's market near Warwick. They had bought a variety of apples, a large jar of honey from a local beekeeper, some Indian corn, a huge pumpkin that Shawn insisted they had to get for him to carve into a jack-o-lantern, as well as two freshly baked pies, one apple and one pumpkin, from a bakery in Warwick that sold many of their baked goods at the farmer's market every weekend.
"So I told Jane we'd meet her and Liam next Friday evening whenever they get into Salem since our check-in time is 3PM," Michelle said as she looked through her purse for her Chapstick.
"No one else is coming?" Shawn asked, slowing down, as he spotted a female deer off the side of the road in the trees and didn't want to hit it if it suddenly made a run to the other side.
"Well Xan and Mike are coming on Saturday for sure, but they might be there Friday night too, depending on their schedules at the pharmacy. And Dee and Jack are only coming on Saturday, since Jack is working on Friday night, but then he's off duty until Monday. It should be fun! I've never been to Salem for Halloween before and being that it's on a weekend this year it'll be crazy. I wonder if the room we're staying in has any ghosts since it's such an old house? I know there's supposed to be ghosts hanging out in all three buildings that Salem Inn has restored into B and B's for their guests."
"We'll see, but if there ARE ghosts staying in the room with us, they better kick in their share on the bill when we check out," he chuckled. "So we're all getting dressed up? Is that what you girls decided?" Shawn asked, grinning at her.
"If you don't wanna get dressed up, nobody is forcing you. We'll just make you wear a sign around town that says Party-Pooper and that'll be your costume," she replied, playfully sticking her tongue out at him.
"I'm not exactly sure what kind of costume I'm supposed to wear."
"Ya wanna let me pick it out?" she said, wiggling her brow.
"Oh Jesus, I don't know if I trust you to pick it out."
"WHAT? Since when? Didn't I help you get your preppy cabana wear outfits together when we went to Newport and Ocean House last 4th of July? Seems to me you looked damned handsome Biff," she joked, calling him by his preppy nickname.
