By the middle of May, Shawn and Michelle were both looking forward to the end of spring session. He was finishing up his final project and thesis for formal crits, as well as studying for finals, and Michelle had been busy with her own papers, her final project for Professor Dupont, editing her portfolio for the year, working at the bookstore and securing a place to stay in New York during her internship.
Shawn's family would be arriving for his graduation the last weekend of May and Michelle would be leaving the following Thursday so she could have a few days in her new place before her internship began the following Monday. He'd decided that he was going to take the commuter flight with her to New York to help get her settled, see where she was going to be living and enjoy a weekend with her before they had to part for a couple of months, which he was not looking forward to, but he knew this internship was a good opportunity for her.
"Babe, did you see my other small bag that I was going to take with me on the plane? I thought it was laying out with the other stuff on the bed," Michelle asked as she was getting a jump on packing things she'd need in New York, while Shawn sat on the bed drinking a beer.
"The last time I saw it, it was over in the closet next to the chair."
"Oh...yeah, here it is," she said as she walked over to find it, putting it on the bed to pack some workout clothes, hoodies and summer shirts, along with shorts, capris and jeans.
"So you're just packing casual clothes?"
"Well yeah, mostly stuff I can wear to work. I mean the whole place is basically the size of a huge warehouse and it's like a factory of creative departments. Did I show you all the really cool stuff they do with the computer programmed laser cutters and their 3-D printers? A lot of the things they make are massive! I mean, I guess it would have to be for art installations at stores, stage scenery for Broadway productions and performances at the Met, but I kinda hope I get to work on some of the Christmas window displays for one of the big department stores!"
"I'm sure wherever they put you, you'll love it."
"Yeah. Maybe they'll put me in a few different departments while I'm there so I can get a lot of experience working with a variety of materials and equipment and learn from the best at what they do."
"I know this'll be a good internship babe. You picked the right one for you."
"I know I did, but I'm really gonna miss you honey."
"I'm gonna miss you too, but we'll be fine," Shawn said, as he pulled her down on the bed with him to cuddle, knowing how much he was going to miss being able to hold her.
"Love you Shawn."
"Love you Chelle."

By the third week of May, Michelle had spent an inordinate amount of time at the library and the RISD museum as she finished her final project for spring session. She had already gone through formal critiques with her professors on Tuesday and had received high praise for her work, giving her confidence she would maintain her 4.0 GPA.
