"Ok Chelle, now you need to tell me how to get to Jane and Liam's. Do they live in a condo downtown or what?" Shawn asked.
"No, they live about 5 miles from here. All you have to do is go all the way down this street until we get to Chestnut Hill Avenue and then make a right on Commonwealth. When we get to Commonwealth I'll tell you where to go from there."
"Alright honey, like I said before, you're the navigator," Shawn grinned at her.
"I hope Jane's heard something about what's going on with the three buyers who were bidding on my house. She didn't say anything to me this morning when I texted her to tell her what time we were coming, but maybe she's gotten some information since then."
"Chelle, I know one of them is going to buy it, you just have to be patient. I predict you'll have everything wrapped up by the end of next month and you won't have to worry about it anymore."
"I hope you're right. It would be such a load off my mind."
"Don't worry baby, it'll happen soon. Everything happens when it's supposed to. That's just how the universe works," he said as he squeezed her hand.
It took longer to get all the way down Beacon Street than Shawn had anticipated due to all the heavy traffic on a Saturday evening, when people were already out celebrating for St. Paddy's weekend. They finally reached Commonwealth and then Michelle directed him to make a left on Fairfield Street and then a right onto Marlborough Street. Once again he found himself in another old neighborhood with architectural gems built between the late 1850's to around 1900. There were the typical old-style lamp posts, each of the trees that lined the street had a small black wrought iron fence around them and the sidewalks were paved with red brick in a herringbone pattern for as far as the eye could see.
"Holy shit, Chelle these houses are fantastic! Look at the design that went into each one! Can you imagine what this neighborhood was like when these were first built? Put this on the list of places we need to explore. Damn I love these three and four story brownstone buildings! You could never replicate them today because the cost would be astronomical. But look at the planning and craftsmanship that went into designing these houses and these neighborhoods!" he exclaimed.
"Ok Sparky, you sound like a kid on Christmas morning!" she giggled, enjoying his enthusiasm for all the old buildings and neighborhoods she was used to seeing, but getting a fresh perspective seeing them through his eyes.
"Maybe...but damn I love these old neighborhoods! I'd love to live in an old neighborhood like this some day. I mean, sure, new construction has its advantages, but I feel like I'm an old house kind of guy. I think I'd be most comfortable living in an old house."
"Well, I've never lived in anything but old homes that have been updated. I don't know any other kind of living space. I could probably live in a newer home or condo, but ultimately I think you're right. I'm more comfortable in an old home," Michelle replied, giving Shawn a grin as he looked over at her.
