Chapter 9

Later in the afternoon Michelle and Chloe made their way to the house to take quick showers and get dressed so they could head out to Ring Brothers Marketplace for groceries and Organic Market for produce. They were going to take the rented SUV and drop their mothers off in the middle of town where all the shops were and then go to Organic Market to pick out the produce they needed, but it was a 25 minute drive one way to the grocery store, so between travel time, shopping and getting back to Chatham, their mothers should have awhile to look around their favorite shops. When they were finished with the grocery shopping they would meet up with them to drive them back to the beach house.

Joanne and Bernice got out and bid the girls goodbye, as Michelle pulled away from the curb to head to Organic Market first. She figured what they didn't find there, they could pick up at the grocery store. They parked and walked around the aisles and bins of fresh fruit and vegetables, looking at all the selections.

"What looks good to you Chloe?" Michelle asked her cousin.

"I don't know. Let's at least pick out the stuff we always eat...ya know...like berries, grapes, bananas, oranges, some peaches and a large watermelon. We need lemons and limes too...oh and some more sweet corn. I'll go pick it out, it's over here. How many ears do you think? Like two dozen maybe?"

"Yeah, that sounds about right. Oh, I also have to get some more romaine and maybe some bibb lettuce to add to what we have at home to make a big salad for dinner. I wonder where the greens are? I need some spinach too," she said as she walked over to the where the variety of lettuce was displayed.

She also picked out some tomatoes, both beefsteak for sandwiches and cherry tomatoes for salads and she added a few cucumbers, red, green and yellow peppers, fresh green beans, baby carrots for Beau, broccoli, cauliflower, a couple of onions, five spaghetti squash, 6 jars of locally made tomato sauce and variety of cheeses that looked good.

Michelle and Chloe paid for their purchases and put them in the back of the SUV, then headed to the grocery store. Once inside, Chloe made her way to the bakery section and picked up fresh bread, croissants, buns for hamburgers and hotdogs and two luscious looking pies...lemon meringue and coconut creme.

Michelle went to the dairy section and picked up a gallon of milk, a large container of sour cream to make veggie dip, two dozen eggs, frozen yogurt and butter. They met in the meat section, looking over the selection and figured out what they wanted to fix for the next few days.

"How about we grill hamburgers and hotdogs for tonight and maybe have a veggie plate and the leftover potato salad from the other night? Maybe we should pick up another bag of chips while we're here too," Chloe suggested.

"That sounds good, and simple enough," Michelle agreed.

So they picked up three packs of hotdogs, five pounds of ground beef for tonight's dinner and three packages of chicken breasts to grill tomorrow, as well as the other things on their list to purchase before heading to the checkout. Once they finished with the grocery shopping they loaded it all in the back of the SUV and made their way back to town to pick up Joanne and Bernice. Chloe called to ask her mom where they wanted to meet them and Bernice informed her that she and Joanne needed a chocolate fix, so they were going to the Candy Manor and to pick them up there. Chloe told her they would be there in about 30 minutes.
