Volleyball

Training was done, finally. I'm so tired. "Good job guys, you can go now." Our coach says. I got to the locker room and sit down. "You alright?" One of my teammates asks. "Tired." I shortly answer. "Who keeps you awake?" The guys tease. "What? No just my neighbours decided to fight a whole night long. And homework. It's exhausting." I explain. "See that you get your rest before the big game this Friday." I nod.
—
"Just ask her already. She won't turn you down, she's the sweetest girl on this school." Xiaojun pushes me towards y/n who was studying. I turned back around. "I can't do it." Xiaojun rolls his eyes and walks with me. "Hey, y/n right?" He starts. "Yes." Her sweet voice answers. "You know YangYang? He's in the same history class as you. He's also a great volleyball player!"
"Oh I know. I've seen him practice a few times with the school team." She smiles. "Of course you did. Now he's playing a big game this Friday and maybe you could go watch it. YangYang would love it, won't you little guy?" Xiaojun made me feel a bit embarrassed but once y/n answered it didn't matter anymore. "Sure, I'll be there."
"And that my friend is how you ask a girl to watch your games." He looks proud of himself. "Are you coming too?" He shook his head. "No, it should be y/n alone so you can go to her if you lose the game." I furrowed. "Why'd we lose the game? I'm telling you, we're going to win!" He shook his head. "You're playing against the number one in rank. Our school is at 6th ranking. It' be a miracle if your team wins."
"Like the basketball team is good. The last 5 games y'all lost. It's been too long since you've won." I teased him back. "Shut up Liu." He for sure is annoyed. "Hey guys, what's up." Hendery closed his locker following us to class. "Jun is can't win with the basketball team." I laughed. "I had to ask y/n out in his place." He teased me back.
—
We were warming up. I sometimes looked at the crowd to see if y/n already arrived. But I can't find her anywhere. Did she lie? "Yah YangYang, ball!" I looked at the voice calling for me but get hit by the ball. "We warned you! Be careful and focus from now on." My team leader tells me.
A minute before the game I see y/n walking in. With a tall guy. I thought it was clear that she'd watch me playing. But now she's taking another guy to watch the game. We got all in position as the game starts. It wasn't easy, the other team is too good.
First set we lost. "Didn't I tell you guys to play exactly like the training?" Our coach sounds disappointed, but he never loses trust in us. "I know the other team is good, but I believe in each and everyone of you. Get back on and show them what you can!"
—
At the end of the game I hear y/n call out for me. "You did a good job." She tells me. "We lost." I said sad. "It's not because you lost that you didn't do good. You did all your best, the other team is just that little bit better." I shrug. "I gotta go to the locker room now. Thanks for coming." I saw her disappointed look when I already said goodbye but she's the one showing up with another guy.
—
"Wait so, she showed up with someone else?" Hendery said shocked. "She doesn't look like someone who'd do that. You know forget about her! There are still a plenty of other girls here." Xiaojun tells me. "But I don't want no one else. Even after what she did." I madly smashed the volleyball against the wall.
Xiaojun's POV
I walked out the gym and searched for y/n. Of course she was eating lunch at the cafeteria like every normal student. Unlike us. "Here you are. Can we talk?" I ask her. She excused herself to her friends and we go to the hall. "Why? Why'd you show up with another guy to the game of my best friend? You think he wanted you to come with someone else? No, he wanted you to come because he likes you y/n!"
"I like him too." She softly says. "Then why that other guy?" I asked. "He's my cousin, he plays volleyball as well. I don't know anything about that sport so I asked him to help me." She explains. "He was telling me about how the game was going because all I know is when the ball hits the floor the other team gets a point. I didn't want to look dumb in front of YangYang."
YangYang's POV
I was still hitting the ball against the wall while complaining to Hendery. "It's just. Ugh I don't get it!" I yell out. "YangYang, calm down. Someone wants to talk to you and you should listen carefully." Xiaojun walks in with y/n following him. Hendery and Xiaojun left the gym, leaving me and y/n alone.
"I'm sorry. I should've told you that it was my cousin." She starts, confusing me. "Your cousin?" She nods. "He's a volleyball player from another school. I don't know anything about volleyball, so he helped me. He told me how good you were actually playing and everything. I didn't want to sound stupid after the game if we'd talk about it. But you left and I understand why."
"I'm sorry to leave you. But it's okay that you don't know anything about it. You just could've asked me about it." I tell her. "I was scared you'd laugh at me if I asked you." I shook my head. "I won't ever laugh at you because you don't know something. That'd be just mean." She chuckles. "Can you maybe learn me some basics of Volleyball?" I nod.
I take the ball and show her. "Now your turn." I passed her the ball. She tried but didn't really succeed at it. "Ouch. I hunted my finger. I'm so stupid." She started laughing at herself. "Does it hurt bad?" She shook her head. "It's fine, I guess. But maybe we can continue this another time."
