Chapter 5: Prison Break

Killian and Tinkerbell arrived at the hidden entrance to the castle jail and waited under tree cover for the prison guard to make his rounds leaving the entrance unguarded for 3 minutes. Unfortunately they had about an hour to kill because gathering supplies had taken longer than originally planned. They got as comfortable as they could while remaining hidden but still keeping an eye on the guard.

"So do you want to review the plan once more?" Killian asked unsure of himself for the first time ever in his life.

"No I think we've got it down," Tinkerbell said, also unsure of herself.

"Okay. Can I ask you a question about fairies?" he asked.

"Sure. What do you want to know?" she answered.

"Were you born a fairy?'

"No I was born human. All fairies were human at one point in time."

"Then how did you become a fairy?"

"Not in the usual way. The usual way is by doing good in your human life to the point that the Blue Fairy notices and offers you a chance to become a fairy and continue doing good works for eternity. But that's not how I became a fairy," she says, sorta sadly.

"Why do you sound sad about becoming a fairy?" he asks concerned.

"I'm not sad about being a fairy. I'm sad because the reason I was offered a chance to become a fairy was by losing my entire family and village to a horrible plague when I was a child. I was the only survivor. My parents were sick and knew they were dying and made a wish on the wishing star to save their only remaining child. My two older brothers and older sister had already died because of the plague. They made the wish every night for two months. I know this because my mother kept a journal and wrote down our entire family history, including their wish every night to save me. Finally one night, the night they died, their wish was granted. The Blue Fairy came to our house and my parents begged her to take me somewhere safe. She agreed and picked me up from my bed and turned to leave. My mother pressed her journal into Blue's hand asking her to give it to me when I was older. She said she would and my parents kissed me goodbye. I was raised by the fairies in the Fairy Realm and when I became an adult Blue told me it was time for me to take place with the fairies and become one. I was nervous because I didn't think I had it in me to be a fairy. I was a bit of a troublemaker growing up. I never fit in with the other children who were being raised by the fairies because of the same reason I was. But Blue believed in me, she saw something in myself that I couldn't see. So I believed in Blue and what she saw in me and became a fairy."

Killian was quiet as he took in all that she had just revealed to him. He was amazed at her story, her life. She was a survivor like him. He had no words for her except, "I'm sorry for your loss. I too have lost my entire family."

"Thank you. It's almost time for the guard to make his rounds. We better get in place," she said softly.

"Aye love," he agreed.

They got up quietly and moved into position. The guard left for his rounds and as soon as he was out of sight, they made a mad dash for the hidden entrance. Once inside, the began to make their way down the corridor using the light ball Tinkerbell created so they could see. They got to a junction and had to decide whether to go left or right. Based on what Tinkerbell knew of the layout, they went right, farther away from the main part of the jail. They continued on towards Regina's cell. They had almost reached it when they heard voices coming from the area of the cell. They stopped just around the corner. Tinkerbell closed her fist over the light ball putting it out. They determined it was two guards talking to each other. They very quietly discussed how they were going to get the guards to go away.

Tinkerbell said, "I could use a glamour spell to make us look like Queen Snow and Prince Charming and we could order the guards away so that we can speak to Regina privately."

"Sounds like a good plan to me love," he agreed.

Tinkerbell waved her wand and magically changed their outward appearance to that of Queen Snow and Prince Charming. Killian asked, "Did it work? You still look like you."

"Crap. They must have some sort of magic damper spell around Regina's cell. We'll have to go back out the corridor to get out of the range of the spell. Once we're out of range, the spell will take effect and we'll be fine to proceed, even once we're back in range of the spell, the glamour will hold until I undo it," she said.

They walked back the corridor. Luckily they only had to go about 1000 feet to get out of range of the dampening spell. They stayed there for a few minutes to make sure the glamour took hold and stayed. It did and they returned to where they had been this time rounding the corner to the cell and the guards.

Queen Snow (Tinkerbell) ordered the guards, "Go and leave us be. We must consult with the prisoner."

"Yes your majesty," the guards say in unison and take their leave, never noticing that Prince Charming (Killian) has swiped the keys to the cell.

"Well what do you want?" Regina asks.

Queen Snow (Tinkerbell) steps closer to the bars and says quietly, "To rescue you of course."

"Rescue me? You put me in here!" Regina says incredulously.

"No I didn't. I helped you find your true love Robin Hood."

"Tinkerbell?"

"Yes."

"Then who's that?"

"Captain Hook at your service," Killian says.

"Well if you're here to rescue me, then you better get on with it," Regina says.

Killian unlocks the cell and opens the door. Regina walks out and she asks Tinkerbell if she'll disguise her as well. Tinkerbell tells her she will but the glamour won't take hold until they get out of range of the magic dampening spell that surrounds the cell. Tinkerbell asks her who she wants to look like. Regina says to make her look like a handmaid. She does and they make their way down the corridor and once they are out of range of the dampening spell, Regina's glamour appears. They make their way back to the hidden entrance and wait again for the guard to make his rounds. This time they only have to wait 5 minutes. Once the guard leaves, the three of them run to the forest.
