Chapter 49

"How about some actual cooperation, Dabi?" Hawks demands. He raises his feather blade to Dabi's neck. 

I start to heat my hands up. He is at a disadvantage and I could easily overpower him. His wings her still small and pathetic and don't look like they would change anytime soon. 

"Hey, I thought you only had those baby feathers left," Dabi said. He was remaining calm. 

"You'd think I'd meet with a liar like you unarmed?" Hawks asks. 

"It was supposed to be tomorrow. And not downtown, but at the factory by the water," Hawks says. He's not wrong. "Plus, this Nomu was a cut above the rest. You could've mentioned that beforehand." Despite his tone sounding angry, he seemed more annoyed than actually mad about the whole situation. Obviously whoever sent him to spy on us is going to be his ass later about this. 

"I guess I just changed my mind," Dabi answered. "Didn't I tell you that we would be testing the Nomu's capabilities?" 

"You said that about his Super Regeneration with that girl, but you never said you'll do it out in public!" He shouts. I glare at him.

"I have a name." I sneer. 

Dabi continues. "But we're both a little guilty. I asked you for someone kinda strong. But you brought the top dog himself!" 

"It wasn't much of a test, anyway," I smirked at this. Hawks was already irritated and I might be fuelling into that more. "Think of it as a pop quiz. You don't know what's coming and your either prepared or not." 

He glared at me and then turned to Dabi again. "I thought you'd be thrilled to inflict that kind of damage on him," He still hadn't moved his blade from Dabi's neck. "Besides, you're the one who broke our agreement." 

"We're supposed to believe that?" Dabi taunted. "This was us trusting how much we can trust you." Dabi gives Hawks a smirk. "And tell me, why zero casualties today? Do you really sympathize with us? You came looking to cooperate, but you sure don't act like it." 

"I gotta keep up appearances. A hero can't go losing the public's trust," He said. "The more faith they have in me, the juicier the intel I can get. That's to your advantage," He continued to glare at both of us. "Try taking the long view here." 

Both of them dramatically turn around and start walking out the opposite ways of the alleyway. I turned to look at both of them. They really are idiots, aren't they? 

"What I do, I do for the League's sake, Dabi." 

"Fine, but you don't get a face-to-face with the boss just yet," Dabi responded. They both continued their walk out of the alleyway. 

"You'll hear from us, Hawks!" I shout towards the hero. I catch up with Dabi. 

We exit the alleyway and we are both met with the smell of salt and the sounds of waves hitting the rocks. It was a beautiful winter day and the sky was a bright blue. There was a breeze though and seeing as how I am only wearing shorts and tank top...it didn't go over well. 

"Oh, right! That Snatch!" Dabi mumbled. He had a small somewhat psychotic smile on his face. "Haha, overthought things and kind of snapped there!" 

Dumbass...

We got home that evening. It was quiet and cold that night. I turned on the TV to see that the whole Endeavor thing was the top story that day. Well, obviously, it happened like a couple of hours ago. 

"...Then we saw a new villain on the rise today. I new League of Villains member has been identified as Akira Tatsuma, who placed third in the Sports Festival, she was seen standing alongside the infamous villain, Dabi. Dabi surrounded the two heroes with a wall of blue flames, but Akira didn't seem to do anything. Then No. 5 hero tried to apprehend them but they quickly warped away. The villains are still at large..." The newscaster said.
