Synopsis: Y/N has a bakery and Prince Harry loves shortbread cookies.Y/N woke up extremely early in the morning. She had gone to bed very early just so she was awake and alert for this very day.
It was Prince Harry's birthday and she was asked by the court to bake him his favourite treat of all time: Shortbread cookies.
So Y/N had been baking for weeks to get the perfect recipe so that she wouldn't embarrass herself in front of the most eligible bachelor in the country. It was also the perfect opportunity to rake in more customers for her bakery especially if they were wealthy but she wasn't willing to admit that to anyone considering the shame she felt in thinking that way.
"Good morning little miss." Humphrey walked in with crates to load into his truck for Y/N to bring her cookies to the castle.
"Good morning Humphrey." Y/N gleams, excited to see her closest friend. Humphrey was in his late twenties and quite a big man. He had known Y/N for a long time and they had become best friends since then. "Thank you for helping me out today."
"Anything for you my dear." He places the crates onto the floor. "I hear there's a lot of people coming to that castle today. Apparently the king and queen are trying to get Harry a bride, bless the poor lad, he's just turned 21 and is already being forced into doom and gloom."
Y/N giggles, "Humphrey, you were lucky to find a lovely lady like Linda." She places the cookies into the crates.
"Oh don't get me wrong little miss, I love my Linda, but she can be a bloody nightmare!" Humphrey exclaims causing Y/N to laugh even harder. "B-but don't go telling her I said that, will you little miss?"
"Your secret is safe with me Humphrey." She pretends to zip her lips, "Now, go and put these into the truck and I'll be right with you."
"You're not wearing anything fancy then?" Humphrey asked looking down at the girls rags with weary eyes. He loved Y/N like a daughter and wished he had enough money to make her life a lot better than what it already is.
"No, no, I'm not joining the party I wasn't invited. I'm just dropping these off this morning and then continuing with orders for the Millers' birthday party, their little boy is turning four and they want two trays of muffins and three trays of cupcakes." Y/N gleams, she loves the community she lives in and how kind everyone is.
"You made all this and didn't receive and invite? How incredulous!" Humphrey says in shock as if it's the most obnoxious thing he's ever heard.
"Oh Humphrey really-"
"Nonsense, I always knew that royal family were getting too big for the boots. I'll be writing a formal letter straight away to the mayor and-"
"Humphrey, I really don't think that would be necessary-"
"Don't be silly Y/N, you deserve an invitation to a fancy party if you're going out of your way to make all of this."
"What about a dress?" Y/N started, "I can hardly afford one nice enough to go to the palace. Forget it, Humphrey, I'm perfectly fine staying home and making cookies to eat by myself."
Humphrey gave her sympathetic eyes, "You deserve better love."
"Nonsense, now come on! We need to get these up to the palace." Y/N walked out of her house to Humphrey's truck and tried to stop herself from crying at Humphrey's words.
She was an orphan at the age of fourteen. Her mother had died after not receiving healthcare from the town doctor and her father was a drunk who left when Y/N was only three years of age. She'd been living alone ever since with the help of Humphrey and his wife who would stop by everyday to help her out with anything.
