Rings 24 – So much better than a half heart
It was a tense helicopter ride for Bryony and Simon. Bryony stared at the window while Simon was on checking something on his phone for work. They haven't spoken since the morning where he went to her room. And she really didn't want to talk with him. Words she spoke earlier were true.
And no, she didn't care if she hurt him with those words she uttered. It was true and she would always blame him for what happened.
They arrived at the helipad at the estate of the duchess, they were ushered quickly out of the helipad and the helicopter was flying up again because there were too many guests who would be using the helipad.
A staff escorted them to the manor and they were brought inside the gray room, they were offered refreshments, Simon asked for a scotch and she asked for a glass of champagne. She sat on the chaise lounge while Simon stood near the window.
"Do you love him?" Simon broke the silence.
She stared at his back because he hasn't faced her, "Yes." She answered honestly, because she knew who he was talking about, Angelo. And of course, she loved Angelo. It was the reason why she was marrying him. She loved him and she wanted to start anew.
"Does he know that you don't want to have kids?"
Another argument that they had when they were still married. Simon had told her relentlessly that they should have another child but she told him angrily that she'd never want another kid. That she'd only have Julien.
Her memories flashed again in her mind.
"It's so easy for you to say that." she said, "Is it because you lost your heir? I lost my child! I don't care about your titles!" she yelled at him. "Divorce me, if you want another child because I would never have another child."
"He was my child too, Bree! But we must go on! Having another kid would help you."
She shook her head, "Would it bring back my Julien? Bring him back then."
Angelo didn't know about Julien, only a few knew about him. When she got pregnant, she begged Simon to let her stay at that estate, she didn't want the stress London brought her. She wanted to raise her kid in an environment that wasn't toxic. Simon agreed and for a few years, they lived there. Simon would occasionally go to London for work and parliament but Bryony and Julien never did go to London. They lived a secluded life and she was happy with it.
And when they have gotten back together, Bryony never really shared her life with Angelo. She kept her former life to herself, she didn't want to bring her memories in Manila so she shut it out. that was she was so good at after all.
Simon didn't know about the pregnancy scare that she had. And how she felt during those moments when she thought she was pregnant. Sure, she was scared but there was a moment where she also wanted that child.
But it was a fleeting moment, a moment she could never share with Angelo. Because when the test turned negative, sure she felt hollow but she also felt relief.
"No." she answered, she never talked about the future with Angelo. She knew she wanted a family but she never told him about her fears, about her scars. She couldn't. Not really.
"What a way to start a marriage." Simon said sardonically.
Before she could argue, refreshments came and also the staff said that the ball was going to start. She nodded at the staff, rose from the chaise lounge and sipped on the champagne.
