Rings 16 – Her heart was breaking

Bryony knew that something was wrong. Not wrong precisely but something was going to happen.

She was sick all the time and she knew that it could mean one thing. She was afraid for it to be true. She wasn't ready.

So when she felt her stomach churning, she rushed to the bathroom. She sunk to the toilet bowl and emptied her stomach.

God.

She hated being sick. And she hated this feeling she had. Because she knew. She couldn't do it. She was not ready for it.

She felt Angel on her back, he started soothing her with his hand on her back.

"Hey, what's wrong?" he asked her.

On her previous marriage, it didn't work out because both of them hid things. They were never honest with each other. And hence, why there were mistrusts.

So she wanted her relationship with Angelo to work out. Angelo was her last chance at happiness and she'd be damned if she didn't make it work.

So she turned to face him and she told him, "I think I'm pregnant."

Silence descended on them as he stared at her wide-eyed. And she was so nervous. What would he say?

And then he spoke, "I can go to the pharmacy and get the test."

She shook her head, she already bought one yesterday. She just wasn't ready to use it then. "I have one. On the cabinet."

He nodded. He kissed her on top of her head, "No matter what the results be, I'll be by your side."

Tears welled up on her eyes. This man. He really was her last chance at happiness. "What about Peter?"

"Peter will love a baby brother or sister. He's been alone."

That was true. But an only child then being a big brother was going to be hard for Peter.

Angelo rose and went to the medicine cabinet. Then he went back to her and handed her the test. "I'll make breakfast and then we'll check together."

She can only nod.

She didn't know what she wanted. She wanted a child but she also didn't want. She really wasn't ready. There were nightmares to face yet.

But she was sure, if Angelo was by her side, she could face it all.

Jenny was excited. Ever since their trip to Cebu, Sir Angelo has really warmed up to her. He can take jokes now.

And that was why she was excited. She had a new joke to share. Every day, she tried to share some corny jokes with Sir Angelo and she just needed to find the best joke to make him laugh.

Sometimes, she'd see Sir Angelo fighting a smile and that small gesture have always made her day. Because he had a beautiful smile even when he tried to hide it.

So when Sir Angelo arrived, she greeted him, he nodded at her and she knew, she couldn't make a joke now.

He was in a bad mood.

Or something else. But his mood was different.

Hindi niya alam kung ano pero ang alam niya di siya muna pwede magbiro. Baka sungitan na naman siya ni Sir Angelo. Kaya hinayaan niya ito muna at tumayo na rin siya para ipag handa ng kape at biscuit si Sir Angelo.
