Rings 22 – Second chance with you
Bryony woke up with a headache, she slowly opened her eyes and found herself in Simon's room. All the years she's been married to Simon, she was never allowed to his room. Simon would always go to her room at night but he'd leave her alone afterward. She still remembered the time she tried to sleep her with him and she had been denied.
But she still tried to make her marriage work and it did at some point. A few years of bliss with Simon. In the end, it was not meant to be. They were never going to work out. The one thing that held them up was gone. And Bryony put walls and so did he.
She slowly sat up and rest her head on the headboard. She closed her eyes again and then she felt him. She didn't open her eyes but she felt his movement around the room, the bed dipped, "Darling, do you need water?" he asked.
She wanted to shake her head and tell him no, she didn't want to speak with him. She hated him. Especially today. Why must he torture her so and bring her here. "Yes, please and with some aspirin." However, if she was going to give him hell, she'd need a clear head.
"Open your eyes, darling." Simon said after a few minutes. She opened her eyes and there he was with his hands holding the glass of water and the aspirin. She took the aspirin first and Simon handed the glass. She drank most of the water and murmured thanks to Simon. "I'm sorry."
She closed her eyes again, she didn't want his sorry. She didn't want anything from him anymore. "Why did you bring me here? And it is not because of your mother. You could have rented out another house, so why are we here?" she asked because after this, she'd leave. She couldn't stay here. The memories were crippling her.
"I wanted to know." He simply said.
That made her open her eyes and glare at him, "Know what? How much this place hurts me still?" she asked, "You knew I never wanted to go back here. You knew and yet you forced me to be here. Is this another one of your cruel punishments?" her voice shook as she felt another onslaught of tears coming.
He touched her face, his hands caressing her cheek, "I'm sorry. I just wanted to know if you still cared." He said, "This house, it doesn't only contain bad memories, Bree. You know that."
She knew that but the bad memories outshine the good. So she shook her head, "I can't be here, Simon. If I stay here, I'd remember him and I can't. I can't do it."
He pulled her to him, he held her and soothed her as she cried, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He continued to apologize and she felt his voice broke too. "We're leaving, okay. We don't have to stay."
"Why are you doing this?" she asked him. Why was he so nice to her all of a sudden? She pulled out from is embrace and looked directly in his eyes. "Why do you want to know if I still cared?"
"I want a second chance with you, Bree."
She rose suddenly from the bed and paced the room, "You are marrying her!" she accused, "And I am marrying Angelo!"
He faced her and he also rose from the bed, "I don't love her, Bree. I never did. It was just a pretense."
"What?" she stopped from her pacing.
"I was mad at you because you handed me the divorce papers." He answered, "So I reacted the way that I have always been when I get mad at you."
"Hurt me." Her voice was small as she answered. Whenever they fought, Simon would retaliate and would do hurtful things. It was why her marriage was so toxic. "I've moved on, Simon. We were no good for each other. I'm only here for your mother but after this, I will go back to Manila and marry Angelo."
