Chapter 1: Dark and Cold
It was dark and it cold. Peter felt like he was floating through space. Everything was hazy. All he could remember was orange and green right before darkness. Suddenly two white doors appeared. Thee door on the left was glowing and it illuminated the dark space. The other door was just a plain white ordinary wooden door, which looked depressing beside the 'holy' door.
Suddenly a figure appeared. They were standing in between the doors, their black cloak covering their entire body and face from view. The figure waved their hand over the door on the left. It opened to reveal Peter's childhood home. Three adults and two teens were waiting inside. The figure waved his hand towards the door on the right. It opened to see a hospital room with a group of people inside.
"What?"
The figure turned to Peter. When he looked directly at Peter, he saw a familiar smile. I mean how can he forget that smile. It was the same kind wise smile from before. It was the man at the cemetery. He was now here standing in front of Peter.
"Hello Peter. Nice to see you again."
"Wha-? Wh-where are we?"
"You are in the grey area of life and death." He explained.
"Grey area?"
"These two doors lead to the two places you can go into." Gesturing to the door on the left, "This door will lead you to the afterlife and this one," He points to the door on the right. "you go back to Earth." He dropped his arm and looked at Peter. "You are very lucky Pete."
"I... What do I pick?"
"The choice is up to you." Suddenly he disappeared and Peter was left alone with the two doors.
"Peter?" A voice spoke up. Looking at the door to the left, he saw Gwen and Harry stepping out of the door.
"Gwen? Harry?" Peter reached out to them and pulled both into a hug. He looked back at the door to see his mom standing there. His mother was quick to pull him into her arms.
"Oh my baby." She pulled away, tears in her eyes.
"Wait where's dad?" Mary shakes her head. She held Peter's face and brought him closer to kiss the top of head. She moved off to the side slightly to reveal Ben and May standing by the door.
"I-" Peter let out a small sob and ran up to May, wrapping her in a tight hug.
"What are you doing here Pete?" May pulled away. She had a hand behind his head, playing with his hair.
"I- I don't know." Peter wanted this. He wanted to be back with her, with them, but now he didn't know if this is what he wanted. "I wanted to be with you."
"Oh Peter."
Peter looked over May's shoulder to see Ben had walked up and was now standing behind May with a hand on her shoulder.
"Come here Pete." Ben extended his arms out. Peter didn't waste a second to fall right into Ben's embrace. A hug Peter had craved and wished for ever since that day. "I'm so proud of you Peter. So very proud." Ben whispered into his ear. Pulling away, Ben kept his hands on Peter's shoulders. "Look at all the people you saved. You made the world a better place. You've grown so much Peter."
Peter looked at the door that led to his childhood home and saw his mom, Gwen, Harry and May standing inside. He looked back at Ben.
"Come now Peter. I know you'll make the right choice. You always do."
He looked at the other door and he felt something tug at his heart. His chest tightened slightly as he stared at the door. He felt a tug, an urge, that lulled him towards it. Peter looked at Ben who was now standing beside May. Taking a step forward towards them, Peter had made a decision.
"Please." A voice stopped him. A very familiar voice. "Please wake up Pete. Everyone's waiting for you. I'm waiting for you."
"Come on Peter. Please wake up. I need you man." Another voice begged.
"How long you gonna sleep for dork? Things are pretty dull without you and your shenanigans." Another voice.
"Come on man. You gotta come back." And another voice.
"Who's gonna be my meme buddy? Only you fit that role." And another.
"Petey?" A small voice asked.
"It's almost been a month Peter. Everyone's losing hope. Come on give us something. Anything. Morgan kept going on and on about a promise. And my Peter always keeps his promise." The voice stops and Peter could have sworn he heard someone crying quietly. "No one wants to but Peter, if you don't give us something, you might be taken off of life support. Please Pete. Please come back."
The door that showed a hospital room was now pitch black. Peter turned to the door that held his family and two of his friends. Peter looked at Ben last. Ben nodded and smiled at Peter. Peter walked away from them and towards the other door. Taking one last look at them, Peter walked through the door.
"See, I told he'd make the right choice. He always does." Was the last thing he heard before the darkness once again took over.
