Chapter 4

Miss Independent

"Mish, can you double check my part right here? I'm not sure if it's a good idea." Ellie said while stretching her arms.

We've been working on the project the whole morning. Mamayang hapon pa yung team meeting since naibigay na kahapon ng supervisors yung tasks namin.

"Hindi pa bumabalik si John? I'm so thirsty already!" she whinned. Bumaba kasi si John sa caf para bumili ng snacks.

"Hi guys! Break time! Want some donuts?" napalingon kami sa magkasamang John at Flint na may dala dalang 2 box ng donut at 2 tray ng coffee drinks.

"Huy! Why did you buy so much food? Maglulunch na kaya." Ellie asked John.

"I did not, nakasalubong ko si Flint sa caf and he volunteered to buy some snacks for us. He insisted!" sabi niya emphasizing the word "insisted" at tinaas pa ang dalawang kamay, surrendering. And also probably remembering what he said the other day, na kaibiganin namin para ilibre kami.

Kunot noong humarap si Ellie kay Flint "Is today your birthday or something? Why are you treating us?"

"No reason, come on, it's not a big deal! Come eat!" Not. a. big deal. He sure has lots of allowance.

Binuksan niya ang mga boxes at nagsimula na silang kumain, binigyan din ang supervisors namin. I just grabbed a coffee, and went back to working.

Kinalabit ako ni Flint. "Hi Mischa, donut?" sabay lahad ng box ng donut na nakabukas.

"Nag breakfast na ako sa bahay eh, busog pa ako." I answered.

"Ang tagal na kaya since nag breakfast ka, come on don't be shy just pick one." He smiled.

"Uhm.."

"Come on"

Ang kulit naman. Baka isipin pa niyang nagpapakipot ako kaya kumuha nalang ako ng isa.

"Thanks"

"No worries." He pat my head, then walked to where John is. I froze.

Mabilis na lumapit si Ellie sakin "I saw that. Wait. Don't tell me ikaw yung....crush niya? Sabi niya kahapon he likes a girl in that room! Akala ko the girl from marketing."

"Stop it Ellie, don't overthink! He's like that to everyone." Sabi ko at itinuro ang banda nila Flint.

May dalawang babae ang kakalabas lang galing sa office ni Ms. Zonia, he stopped them with a big big smile and then offered them some donuts. The girls thanked him and giggled their way out.

"You have a point but I'm not convinced. Let's finish this!" pertaining to our work.

Lunch time came and we went down. Mag k-kbbq kami ngayong araw dahil hindi kami natuloy last time dahil naging busy. One step then we're out of the company when someone called us.

"Hey guys! Wait!" Flint said jogging a little bit to catch us. "Saan kayo? can I join you for lunch?"

Before I could reject him nagsalita na si John.

"Sure bro, magsasamgyup kami. Let's go!"

We all walked to the samgyupsal restaurant. Isang tawid lang naman yun. The street across our company is full of restaurants, be it Filipino food, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, US or Mexican ay puro meron.

Magkaakbay na naunang maglakad ang dalawang boys. They sure became best friends in just 2 days huh.

Marahan akong hinila ni Ellie para makasunod na sa kanila. Magkatabi kaming umupo ni Ellie at sa tapat naman naming ang mga boys. Nasa tapat lang namin ang television at currently playing ang isang kdrama na parehas naming napanood na. Ellie squeaked when the guy pulled the girl and then kissed her. I smiled widely feeling kilig dahil favorite couple artists ko sila.

The boys are talking with each other. They seemed to have so much same interests na hindi sila nauubusan ng topic. Sila din nagluluto dahil ayaw nila ibigay ang tongs samin kaya nanonood nalang kami ng kdrama.

Flint keeps on giving me the meats he grilled which is making uncomfortable agAiN. Because I can do it by myself naman.

"You don't need to give me, I can do it by myself." I told him.

"I know. I can do it too, and I want to share it with you guys." Sagot niya

Napailing nalang ako at nagpatuloy sa pagkain. Bahala siya.

"Come on guys, chill." Sabi ni John "Here Mish, I'll give you some din." But before he could put it on my plate, nilahad ni Ellie ang plate niya at tiningnan ng masama si John.

"Stop it you guys. John, alam mo naman she likes to do things for herself if she's capable of doing it. Stop interfering." I smiled at her and thanked her. Good thing she knows me and she can deal with the other annoying person.

I'm the kind of person na as much as I can, I won't bother other people, I will do it myself. I don't like the feeling na may utang na loob sa ibang tao. I don't want to rely on people kasi pano nalang kung nawala yung taong yun sa buhay ko. What will be left of me?

When the bill came, nagtalo si John at Flint kung sino ang magbabayad. Ellie just looked at them while eating an ice cream and I suggested na i-split nalang yung bill but it seemed that no one heard me.

In the end, Flint paid our bill and promised John na sa susunod siya naman.

What is wrong with these guys? I can pay for my own food.
