Caught In The Widow's Web

Ch 22

The screeching is loud but when it subsides we put our hands down. A robot then shows up.

"Worthy...No... How could you be worthy? You're all killers." It says.

"Stark." Steve speaks up.

"JARVIS." He says.

"I'm sorry, I was asleep. Or...I was a dream?" The robot says.

Tony then goes to tap his device he had.

"Reboot, Legionnaire OS, we got a buggy suit." He says.

"There was a terrible noise...and I was tangled in..in...strings. I had to kill the other guy. He was a good guy." It says.

"You killed someone?" Steve asks.

"Wouldn't have been my first call. But, down in the real world we're faced with ugly choices." It responds.

"Who sent you?" I ask going to walk over to it but Steve holds be back gently.

The robot then replays a voice and it's Stark's.

"I see a suit of armor around the world."

"Ultron!" Banner exclaims.

"In the flesh. Or, no, not yet. Not this...chrysalis. But I'm ready. I'm on a mission." Ultron says.

"What mission?" Natasha asks.

"Peace in our time." It responds and suddenly a lot of Starks suits smash through the wall making us all spread out.

One comes straight at me grabbing me in a choke hold, I get him off but it comes back stronger. I go to snap it's neck, it's head turning to the side but it just twists it's head back facing forward.

"Shit. Stark!" I call out hoping he can shut these things down quickly before anyone gets hurt.

"One sec, one sec!" I hear him respond.

The robot tackles me and I fight back the best I could until it yanks my arm out of its socket then grips my neck, squeezing my windpipe so I can't breathe.

"Sarge!" I hear Steve call and he tosses me his shield allowing me to dismember the robot and I cough trying to catch my breath.

"That was dramatic! I'm sorry. I know you mean well. You just didn't think it through. You want to protect the world, but you didn't want it to change. How is humanity saved if it's not allowed to...evolve." Ultron says then picks up a dismembered robot.

"With these? These puppets. There's only one path to peace. The Avengers' extinction." It continues when suddenly Thor throws his hammer at it and it starts to sing.

"I had strings, but now I'm free. There are no strings on me, no strings on me."

"Now might be a good time to catch me up, Stark." I wince.

Lab

"All our work is gone. Ultron cleared out, used the internet as an escape hatch." Banner says looking around.

"Ultron." Steve speaks.

"He's been in everything. Files, surveillance. Probably knows more about us than we know each other." Natasha sighs.

"He's in your files. He's in the internet. What if he decides to access something a little more exciting?" Rhodey asks.

"Nuclear codes." Hill speaks up.

"Nuclear codes. Look, we need to make some calls, assuming we still can." He shrugs.

"Nukes? He said he wanted us dead." Natasha says.
