Ch 10

I was in the medical facility getting my wound wrapped up. My uniform top taken off, in a white tank top, sitting on the medical bed with Steve by my side. I lost a lot of blood but they said I'm going to be fine. I had like 2 of the alien's teeth lodged in there. I take the teeth in my hand, looking down at them.

"You think I can use these for Halloween or something?" I question as I go to put the teeth in my mouth.

"Joey that's disgusting. Do you know what they put in their mouths?" He asks lowering my arm.

"Yeah, me!" I emphasize and he shakes his head amused.

"Well I see you're feeling better. The color is starting to come back in your face, eat your cookie and drink your juice." He says.

"But you ate my cookie." I chuckle pointing to his lips seeing the crumbs as he licks them.

"You really scared me today, J.D." He then says softly.

"I guess we're even then." I chuckle making a tiny smile come on his face even though he's serious and I look ahead.

"I think we still have the impression that if we're going down, it'll be together." I say with a sigh as I turn to look at him.

"I don't know what I'd do without you, Joey. You're my best friend." He says as we hold eye contact.

"Same here, kid." I smile.

The door then opens getting our attention. Fury walks in with Hill and Romanoff on either side of him.

"Well I see the stories were true. You two make a good team." Fury says looking between us.

"Thank you, sir." Steve nods and Fury turns his attention to me.

"You really saved the day today. I hope your injuries aren't too bad, Sarge." Fury says making everyone look at me.

I shake my head looking down as I lick my lips.

"Loki has been taken care of and Thor is going to take him back to Asgard." Fury tells us.

'Here it comes.' I think to myself waiting for him to say he doesn't need us anymore.

"I want to offer you two jobs here, as SHIELD agents." He says making me look up slightly.

"I know you might not want to join Sarge, but we do hope you consider, Captain." He adds making me turn to Steve who has a serious, almost offended look on his face.

"That's a generous offer, sir. But you said it yourself, we're a team. It's both of us or neither of us. We'll think about. Because we *wraps arm around my shoulders* are going to Disneyland and eat churros until we puke." Steve says with a childish smile.

I smile as he turns to me and we do our handshake.

"I'll be waiting to hear from you then." Fury says and leaves without another word with Hill by his side as Romanoff stays behind.

"Wow, no one's made Fury wait before." She says impressed.

"Yeah well I think we all deserve a vacation." Steve speaks.

It then gets quiet.

"I'm um, going to get you another cookie." Steve says breaking the tension making me turn to him.

"Nonononono." I mumble trying to hold him back but he gets out of my grip leaving the room and it's just Natasha and I in the room.

"*clears throat* Good work, Agent Romanoff. We couldn't have done it without you." I speak getting up from the bed grabbing my uniform top.
