Ch 21

Sam and I are riding up in the elevator of what is now the "Avengers" Tower I guess. I fix my sunglasses on my face with a sigh. The elevator dings as it opens and I see the room is full of people making me slightly groan. Suddenly I'm tackled by the side making me huff as the wind is knocked out of me. I recognized the cologne as Steve's.

"Dang, kid." I wheeze as he holds me tight.

"Sorry." He smiles letting me go.

"I just missed you." He says sheepishly with a chuckle.

"I saw you yesterday, Steve." I smirk ruffling his hair and he whines fixing it.

"Still." He mumbles as he gets his hair how he likes it.

He and Sam then exchange a short bro hug.

"So did you find him?" He asks turning to me.

"I'm here empty handed ain't I?" I raise an eyebrow and he gives me a soft look.

"Sorry, that came out kinda rude." I sigh and he places a hand on my shoulder.

"It's okay, I know you have a lot on your mind right now." He says and I nod looking around the room.

When I look over to the bar my heart skips a beat. I see a certain red head with now short hair and their back towards us.

"Is that-

"Yup and she's not so happy with you." Steve sighs crossing his arms over his chest.

I sigh turning back to the two men and they look at me expectantly.

"What?" I ask furrowing my eyebrows.

"What are you waiting for? Go and talk to her." Sam nudges me over towards the bar.

"I don't know what to say. It's been a year." I say with slight nervousness in my voice as I look back to see Natasha still facing the drinks as she's making one.

"Alright. It's either you go to her or we'll bring her to you." Sam says and looks over my shoulder.

"N-

"Alright, alright, I'm going." I huff making them smile.

I turn around and make my way to the bar. When I get to the counter Natasha still has her back to me.

"So- uh, what's a soldier gotta do to get a drink around here?" I ask sheepishly making the red head woman turn around in surprise.

Her face goes from surprised to more serious.

"Well look who finally bestowed their presence upon us." She says sarcastically making me sigh.

"Nat, I'm-

"You know, when Steve arrived by himself I thought something happened to you." She continues, making me feel bad.

"Nothi-

"You're getting yourself into places you don't even know they're leading you into the right direction. I don't want to get a call from Steve-

I unexpectedly jump over the bar counter making her furrow her eyebrows and stop mid sentence.

"What are you-

Now it's my turn to cut her off as I hug her bringing her body close to mine. She's stiff at first but then relaxes wrapping her arms around my neck.

"I'm sorry. I was just so close in finding Bucky I couldn't leave. But, close wasn't good enough. I didn't find him so here I am. I wan- needed to see you. Make sure you're okay." I say softly as I hold her close then back away looking down at her.
