I slowly start to shift awake, I open my eyes to see I'm in a hospital room. I groan sitting up slightly where I see Steve in a bed similar to mine on the opposite side of me to the right. I hear a radio in the background.
"Cap?" I rasp as I see he starts waking up too.
"Ugh, Sarge?" He responds also with a rasp as his eyes adjust to the light.
I then start to focus in on what the radio was saying as I hear it's a baseball game.
"Curve ball, high and outside for ball one. So the Dodgers are tied, 4-4. And the crowd well knows that with one swing of his bat, this fellow's capable of making it a brand new game again. Just an absolutely gorgeous day here at Ebbets Field. The Phillies have managed to tie up at 4-4. But the Dodgers have three men on. Pearson beaned Resier in Philadelphia last month. Wouldn't the youngster like a hit here to return the favor? Pete leans in. Here's the pitch. Swung on. A line to the right. And it gets past Rizzo. Three runs will score. Reiser heads to third. Durocher's going to wave him in. Here comes the relay, but they won't get him."
The door opens getting Steve and I's attention as we turn to see a woman walk in.
"Good morning. *checks her watch* Or should I say, afternoon?" She smiles.
"Where are we?" Steve asks looking around.
"In a recovery room in New York City." She responds.
'New York?' I think to myself as my eyebrows furrow as I look down.
"The Dodgers take the lead, 8-4. Oh, Dodgers! Everyone is on their feet. What a game we have here today, folks. What a game indeed."
"Where are we really?" He asks again suspiciously.
"I'm afraid I don't understand." She says.
"The game, it's from May 1941. I know, cause I was there. *I get up from the bed* Now, we're asking for the last time, where are we?" I break my silence as Steve and I stand side by side as we face the woman.
"Sergeant Barnes, Captain Rogers..." She says looking between us.
"Who are you?" Steve asks as our guards are all the way up.
Two soldiers in black uniforms enter the room, we each take one and knock them through the wall and it looks like a made up set.
"Run." Steve says and we run out of there.
"Wait! All agents, code 13! I repeat. All agents, code 13!" We here as we continue to run.
We make it outside and I'm left in shock as we look around. It seems like it's Time Square but I don't know. Numerous black SUVs surround us and we are in a defensive stance. A man steps out of one of them coming towards us.
"At ease, soldiers! Look, I'm sorry about that little show back there, but... we thought it best to break it to you two slowly." The man says and Steve and I look at each other confused before we turn back to face the man.
"Break what?" Steve asks.
"You've been asleep, Cap, Sarge. For almost 70 years." He tells us and we look around the city in shock.
70 years. Asleep.
"You two gonna be okay?" He then asks.
I don't respond as I look around, moving billboards with pictures on buildings. Everything was so different.
"Yeah. Yeah. I just... I had a date." I hear Steve say making me turn to him and look down briefly.
"Who are you?" Steve asks him.
"I am Nick Fury, director of SHIELD." He introduces himself.
"Now, can you two please come with me and we can help with your situation." He tells us calmly motioning back to the SUV he came out of.
Steve and I look at each other as we hesitate.
"I can assure you both that you aren't in any danger right now." He says and that doesn't make me feel any better as we hesitantly get in the SUV as we are escorted to what I assume is SHIELD.

SHIELD
We are taken into an office.
"We will be able to provide you with an apartment for the both of you, unless you prefer to each have your own place?" Fury speaks looking between us.
Steve and I look at each other.
"We'll live together." Steve says and I nod looking around.
Fury continues to talk and Steve does all the responding as I keep to myself looking around or down at my hands. A woman then walks in and she gets my attention briefly before I continue looking down at my pants.
"This is Agent Maria Hill, she also works for SHIELD, my right hand woman." Fury says.
"Hill, I assume you know who they are?" He then asks.
"Of course sir, Captain Steve Rogers and Sergeant Josephine Barnes." The woman says.
"It's Joesph." I break my silence but don't look up.
Both Fury and Maria caught off guard by her speaking.
"My apologies, the files-
"I know what they say." I nod looking up making eye contact with her then look away as soon as it happened.

Steve and I are settling in our new apartment. I bring over two beers handing him one.
"To new beginnings?" I raise an eyebrow making him chuckle.
"*sighs* New beginnings." He smiles clinking our bottles together as we take a seat on the couch.
"Steve, we're gonna be alright, right?" I turn to him.
"Of course J.D. We'll be just fine. Cap and Sarge. Stevie and Joey. Captain America and Sergeant Brawns-
"Alright, alright." I cut him off with a laugh.
"So, you think pizza is better in this time?" I ask and his face lights up at the mention of food.
"Only one way to find out." He says and we get up to get ready to leave to pick up some pizza.
'Maybe this new life won't be so bad.'
