Title: One of a Kind
Chapters read: 6
Score: 7.5/10What I LIKED about your book;
I really am a sucker for your writing style. The way you wrote the story was very appealing and entertaining to read as it's very descriptive and very colorful, comical at certain points also. I gotta say, your description and detailing of the story's scenes sounded more professional than amateur. It's like you never run out of things to ponder on as your story flows and I really appreciate this as it invokes my imagination and really provokes me to visualize all the scenes you are creating. In short, 10/10 in your writing style, I absolutely love it!The chapters themselves are mixed though. I appreciate it that you introduced and explored your book's characters individually early on in the story and I quite got a grasp of their unique personalities. Even though I haven't read further yet to see what happens, I can really feel the characters who will have the beef and the chemistry. The earlier chapters also serve as a very informative opening to the story as we really get an insight into the setting and the plot's buildup.
The characters are also well-developed and authentic and the fact that you introduced a lot of characters in a small span of chapters smoothly deserves some commendation as you've not only introduced them but also explored them and built up a tad bit of intrigue. Personally, my favorite character is Flen. I really don't know why but I just admire how tough she is, as I've been used to damsel-in-distress female leads, Flen is a big excerpt from these. But all the other characters also deserve the same type of admiration as you've built them uniquely and authentically, and also made them very interesting.
What I DIDN'T LIKE about your book:
Alright so the first thing I noticed about the book is the lack of action. The early chapters are what ensures if your readers are gonna go further and enjoy the story as most people aren't that patient. What I've noticed is that, because of the big cast and your individual introduction of them, the plot became quite repetitive. It all revolved around the "edge of the world" and truthfully, it really wasn't really exciting or something that would draw me into the story. The characters are great yes but the book's lackluster premise, combined with my short patience, definitely prevented me from reading further.The lack of intrigue and introduction of a certain conflict that would spur the readers into the direction of the story really had an effect into the chapters I've read.
CONCLUSION:
I'm still giving this book a try though. I want to see more of Flen and honestly, I just need to extend my patience to see how this book plays out.But hey! You're writing style, absolutely stunning. It's one that kept me interested in reading more to be honest and it's surprising that English isn't even your native language; your mastery of it literally disguises this.
