Alternate (a AOT and FMA crossover)

Chapter 7

(Edward's POV)

For the next few days, I managed to get used to this new world, the Survey Corps and its people. Me and Eren became great friends. I enjoyed talking about books and exchanging knowledge with Armin. I became good friends with him and Mikasa so I decided to show Armin my automail, he also promised not to say anything.
I didn't like Jean's lazy personality and Ymir's violence but I laughed at Sasha and Connie's pranks. Christa was quiet but always did her best to help which I respect.

I hid my automail and never talked about my past which some people distrusted me for, but Levi killed the rumors before they could spread. I trained in hand to hand combat with Eren. I ran tests with Hange who wanted to learn the limits of my Alchemy and the strength of Automail, learned 3DMG with either Mikasa or Levi and basic battle formations with Armin and Erwin.

I quickly got used to this life and I actually enjoyed myself. Maybe I did need a vacation from constantly trying to find the philosopher's stone or fighting homunculi... I did miss my brother, and Ling and even the Colonel and the Lieutenant's absences were starting to weigh on me but I'm sure that I will see them soon.

Today, Levi told me that they were holding an important meeting with the Commander, Hange and the special ops squad. I don't know what it's about but he seemed really worried.

He always looks worried, I'm probably just overthinking it.

But I couldn't help but feel uneasy as I headed to his office. The hallways were missing their usual excitement, and the torches seemed darker for some reason. I walked faster and when I opened the door to his office, the atmosphere was so tense. Everybody looked bewildered and sad except for Eren who had a crazy expression of disbelief on his face but I couldn't help but notice that Bertholdt and Reiner weren't here.

"Tch. You're late Fullmetal brat." said Levi, using the new nickname he gave me.

"Sorry. What did I miss?" I asked pulling a chair next to Eren who was staring at the table a psychotic look in his blue eyes.

"We discussed the identity of the Female Titan who we established as human shapeshifter." answered Armin. "And I have strong evidence to back up that the Female Titan is actually Annie Leonhart."

"Who's she?" I asked.

"Annie was a Cadet in the 104th, she was the fourth best of us and she is currently in the Military Police." said Jean.

"It can't be her..." mumbled Eren.

"What are you saying brat," asked Levi. "The evidence points to her and there is no reason that proves that she's not."

"She trained besides us! She taught me how to fight and she cared more than she showed! How could you just say that she killed dozens of Scouts!"

"Think about it Eren, she didn't kill me, and somehow Reiner managed to escape her grasp easily and I already told you, that the gear she presented at the check up wasn't hers, it was Marco's which makes her the only one capable of killing Sonny and Bean." explained Armin. "You must remember... something about the Female Titan... reminded you of her, didn't it?"

He stared dejectedly at his clenched fists.

"Fine." he said softly.

"What?"

"Fine! Yes! I did recognize her fighting stances! Happy!" he yelled, kicking down the door then running out.

"Eren!" Levi yelled.

When he didn't come back, I looked at Armin, he nodded then the both of us ran to catch up with him. We looked in our rooms and the dinning hall but he wasn't there. We searched the training grounds and the stables but no luck. Then I remember something he said once when he was talking about his home in Shiganshina:

When I wanted to think, or avoid my parents, I used to crawl to the roof and hide there stubbornly until Mikasa had to drag me down. I was some stupid brat huh?

"That's it..." I murmured.

"What's it?" asked Armin

"Follow me!" I yelled already running.

Since there were no stairs leading to the roof of the base, so we went to the courtyard. Then I used alchemy to propel the stone floor up several feet all the way to the roof. And sure enough, Eren was there, he had his gear on his hips and he was staring at the night sky. We laid down next to him and watched as the clouds covered the stars then flew past us.

"I knew it was her." finally said Eren.

We turned our heads in his direction and just looked as he began to speak.

"Ever since I first saw the Female Titan, I knew it was Annie. I didn't want to accept it, but I could see the same look in her eyes, they were the same eyes Annie had when she talked to me, that day during training. That look that showed nothing but pain and sadness. I always knew she was hiding something that was making suffering but she never showed it, she never showed or shared anything."

Then a single tear rolled down his cheek.

"Why couldn't she talk about it? I know I never knew her very well, but I respected her, not just as fellow Cadet, but as a friend, someone I admired for their strength. And now, people are counting on me to kill her, aren't they? And the truth is, I can't kill her, I can't kill a friend but how can I live with myself if I let the person that killed so many of our own, Petra, Oluo, Eld and Gunther... how could I let her live knowing that she killed people that I know Levi cared about? How? HOW!" he roared at the sky, crying uncontrollably.

No matter how confident and reckless this guy seemed at first sight, deep down, he is a kind boy that has been hurt too many times. We didn't say anything, we just wrapped out arms around him. He took my right arm and Armin's left in his hands and squeezed them. We just stayed like that, in each others' comfort, as the stars reappeared. And before we knew it...

...we had fallen asleep together under the night sky.

Sorry if that went off the original plot... well... sorry not sorry? Anyway, since you readers could be using the imperial OR the metric system, in my infinite capacities (lol no) I use both systems, the aot characters use meters and fma uses feet.
