Chapter 9

Time skip: after Armin, Mikasa and Eren fail to lure Annie underground and after she transformed

(Levi's POV)

Damn you Erwin! 

I was pissed. Because of my leg injury, Eyebrows forced me to fight backup, I was not allowed to interfere unless things got really bad. I had to stay in the clock tower and could do nothing but watch. That titan bitch had already transformed, plan A had failed and for some reason plan B was not possible.

Why isn't he transforming? Fuck!

Truth is, I wasn't mad at Erwin, or Eren, I was mad at myself. I didn't know what happened to my squad members, and I couldn't help them or even check if they were alive in those tunnels. I was useless, I truly felt useless. I couldn't help my squad in any way.

Then I saw someone crossing the roads at top speed. Elric. He then disappeared in the ground, in the rubble where the Female Titan had destroyed the tunnel.

Fullmetal...

I stood there, watching impatiently as I waited to see what the Alchemist would do. Then I saw blue flashes, an explosion, rubble flying everywhere. I closed my eyes and covered my face with my arm. When I looked up, Eren had fully transformed and was roaring in anger.

(Edward's POV)

When the Female Titan was running free, I knew something went wrong. Something must have happened that stopped Eren from transforming. I ran as fast as I could to the place where the tunnels began. When I got there, Eren was there, a metal rod impaling his chest, Mikasa and Armin were gone.

"Eren!"

I ran to him and began to remove the rocks, but he grabbed my arm, stopping me from picking up the rubble.

"Stop. I'm not worth it... I couldn't do it... I'm useless... how can I be humanity's last hope, if I can't even kill one enemy... the army doesn't need me... you and Captain Levi should be enough... just go..." he said, his voice filled with anger and despair.

Something in me snapped. I snatched my metal arm back, and looked at his face, my eyes filled with rage.

"PULL YOUR SHIT TOGETHER DUMBASS! DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT PEOPLE THINK YOU'RE USELESS? DO YOU THINK THAT NOBODY NEEDS YOU!? YOU'VE BEEN CALLED HUMANITY'S LAST HOPE FOR A REASON, NOW STOP MOPING! THINK OF US, WE NEED YOU! YOU'RE THEY'RE ANCHOR, YOU'RE WHERE THE VICTORIES STARTED, AND YOU ARE SURE AS HELL GOING TO BE HERE IN THE END!"

I didn't even take the time to look at his stunned expression, I clapped my hands together and slammed them on the floor. The debris and dust flew everywhere, I managed to escape the blast with only a damaged jacket, I moved to the nearest alley, and by the time I turned around, Eren was already transformed, determination in his green titan eyes. I sat on the ground and smirked.

That's the Eren we know.

(Eren's POV)

He's right... I'm so stupid. All I could see were reasons to pity myself, but there are so many things to admire, so many things I did right, so many people that believe in me. 

I promised. I said that I would make them proud, and that's exactly what I will do. I refuse to die before that happens!

When Edward removed the shard out of me, I bit into my hand again. The pain only lasted a second, because when the dust cleared, I was looking above the rooftops and I could see Annie's eyes.

Bitch. You'll pay for what you've done.

I chased her around the city, she was avoiding the buildings better, but I just didn't care, I ran through everything. Nothing was going to stop me from killing her.

When we got to a plaza, I threw a punch, after that, it was a flurry hits, we exchanged blows, neither willing to back down. But she managed to get the upper hand. She kicked me down with a crystal shin, then hit me mercilessly. Until my titan form was crushed and broken on the ground. She ran away, but I wasn't down yet.

I will kill them. I will kill all the titans. All of them.

Then all I remember was a sudden rage, my titan hadn't completely regenerated but before I knew it I was tackling Annie to the ground, my body covered with veins of pure fire. I felt like I could destroy anything, I punched her relentlessly. I could see the fear in her eyes. She was terrified, terrified about what I could do to her, terrified about what I had become, a monster, devoid of all human sentiment.

She managed to push me off her then she crystallised her fingers and began to scale the walls.

You're not escaping that easily!

I grabbed her ankle, she looked down and tried to kick me off, I was on my last grip, but then a silhouette stood on top of the wall.

Edward?

He was there, clothes torn to shreds, revealing his metal arm. Annie's eyes widened in shock as she saw the metallic glint. Then he clapped his hands, and hit the ground. Blue lightning coursed through the wall down to the Female Titan. A huge spike poked out of the wall and pushed her by the collarbone. She fell backwards, losing all grip on the wall.

I punched her into the ground, over and over again, Titan blood flying everywhere, my limbs were not back yet, but that didn't stop me. 

I will destroy the whole world! 

I didn't stop until the bitch was on the ground, still, I could faintly hear the voices of the others telling me to stop, but I wanted her dead! She had to die. 

I bent down to bite Annie's helpless body out the titan, but when I saw her face, I stopped. She was crying. 

I did that too. When mom died.

I hesitated, but immediately after that, her clear crystals were beginning to cover up her body, and my titan form was melting into it.

Fuck!

(Levi's POV)

I jumped through the alleys, shooting my grappling hooks wherever I could. I sped through the city until I was on the Titan's back. He was beginning to merge with the Female Titan.

I sliced open the nape, making sure to not kill the Cadet inside.

"Don't eat valuable witnesses, moron." I said flatly.

I pulled him out and hopped back to the ground, my leg stinging a little. Edward came down from the wall then made a sort of makeshift stretcher with the remains of his uniform shirt and red jacket. I put Eren down gently then we took him to the other cadets. Edward then made a platform for me, Eren, Hange, Mikasa and Armin then we shot off to HQ before anybody could see Elric's metal arm.
