Chapter 35

(Edward's POV)

I pulled myself back up and regrouped with the others who were all with Erwin as he stared at the Beast Titan. I looked at his army of titans that were just standing in line on either side of him. But I was more preoccupied by how I, once again, miserably failed to kill Reiner when it mattered.

"Uh, Erwin's he's coming up." said Levi, looking over the other side.

I looked over that edge with Armin and Jean as the Armored Titan was slowly scaling the wall, stabbing his hardened feet and fingers in it. I looked back at the commander, he just focused on the Beast Titan, an unfazed look in his eyes.

"Commander. It's getting closer!" shouted Armin.

"Yes I know." he answered calmly.

"That's it? Are we just going to sit here and wait for death?" Levi said, sarcastically.

"Dirk's squad and Marlene squad, join Klaus squad and protect the horses with your lives!" He ordered, "Elite squads, get rid of the armored titan. Get the thunder spears and used them to Hange's command, you have your orders. Move out!" he shouted.

"Yes sir!" a bunch of people said as they went to their posts.

"Not you, Levi, Edward, Mustang and Armin. You four stay here." he said.

I stopped in my tracks and we went back to the commander.

"So you want me protecting horses instead of Eren." Levi hissed.

"Yes. You are the only one I can trust to kill the Beast, Armin is needed here for his big brain of his and the two of you will more useful to Levi then to the others." he explained.

"Understood. I will carve that little bitch up." said Levi.

The three of us jumped off the wall, leaving Armin with the commander. I held Mustang as we lowered him to the ground. Once we were on the ground, I created a platform for the two of us to follow Levi. He shot through the houses, cutting down any titan in sight. Then he saw a scout in trouble, holding several horses and being followed by two titans. Levi cut them down in seconds and I was about to run away, to try to hide our existence but when I saw that it was only Marlowe, I got closer to him.

"You okay?" I asked jumping off my platform.

"Edward! Captain Levi! Yes I'm okay!" he saluted.

"Good, now Marlowe go! Tell anyone in Marlene's squad to cut down any of the small titans." ordered Levi, landing on the roof above us.

"Yes sir!" he said before running with the horses.

We went back to cutting down titans, Levi took care of the taller ones above the roofs, me and Mustang mopped up the multitude of them that were crawling around the town. Mustang burned their eyes or limbs off then I cut down their napes. We teamed up like this until we couldn't find anymore. Then I shot the platform to the rood where Levi was observing the situation.

"The recruits are struggling with tiny ones. Pathetic." hissed the captain. "I hate the weak."

Then Dirk came up to us and after saluting Levi, he said:
"Captain Levi sir! All the small ones in the proximity are cleared."

"Good."

"So what is the Beast Titan doing sir?" Dirk asked. "It's just sitting there."

"Guess it's a lazy piece of shit. Just focus on getting the other small ones outside the settlement. Don't let a single one escape." ordered Levi.

"Yes sir!" he said, before shooting his hooks away.

We looked at the other scouts as they left on their 3DMG, doing their best to get rid of any titans that tried to get close to the houses. There were a few casualties but nothing too bad. But suddenly Mustang shouted:
"Watch out!"
