(Eren's POV)

"Armin! You can come out now! We've got him!"

I was dragging unconscious Bertholdt by the collar, jumping from roof to roof searching for Armin. But I couldn't see or hear him anywhere. But then I saw something appear from the subsiding steam, it was a body on the neighboring roof, it was black and charred with ash. I jumped over and ran to the body.

"Armin..." I murmured, the words barely coming up my throat. "Fucking hell..."

I was about to talk to him a bit more, but then a loud thud came from behind me. I turned around and saw the quadrupedal titan, and on it's back was a blond man with missing limbs.

The Beast Titan.

"Get away you bastard or I will slice his head off." I hissed pressing my blade on Bertholdt's throat.

"So you're Eren Yeager. You look nothing like you father."

He knows Dad?

I pushed the blade deeper in Bertholdt's throat as a warning, the cart titan didn't come closer but I could tell that the glassed man wanting to talk more. But then he noticed three figures on top of the wall.

"Shit Levi... how did you get here so quickly?" he hissed.

He said something to me, but I was more focused on the three of them. They're alive, thank god. But then as they jumped down, the two shifters ran away before they could land.

"Eren! Give me your gas! Now!" ordered Levi.

"Yes sir!" I said pulling out my canisters,

But then I heard a wheeze coming from the corpse. Armin was breathing.

"Armin! You're alive?!" I shouted.

"That's Armin?!" exclaimed Edward, diving on his knees next to me.

Mikasa soon landed on the roof and immediately after understanding what was going on, she shot a flare but I didn't really care why.

"Captain! The syringe! Please! We'll have him eat Bertholdt!" I yelled pulling the Colossal Titan.

He pulled the bow out of his jacket and was about to hand it to me when suddenly Floch came on the roof with a body on his back.

"Thank god. Captain Levi sir! It's the commander! His stomach has a hole and his organs are a mess, I thought we could give him the injection..." said the red-head.

Mustang helped Floch up and Levi took his pulse.

"He's alive, we're giving him the shot." said the captain.

"But you just said we'll use it on Armin..." I mumbled.

"Use your brain Eren! This is the commander we're talking about, of course I'm going to resurrect him." Levi hissed.

I tried to grab the box, but the captain just looked at my hand then looked at me with a glacial look in his eyes.

"Don't make me do this Eren..." he said menacingly.

I didn't say anything, but the look in my eyes must have given me away because he punched my face and I went flying down the roof. When I came to, my mouth felt numb and I was missing several teeth, I raised my head slowly and I saw Mikasa pinning down Levi and looking at the box longingly.

Then I saw Edward kick Mikasa off then he transmuted the tiles into straps that then pinned her down against the chimney.

"How could you," Mikasa mumbled. "I thought you were friends with Armin."

"I am, and don't get me wrong I'm not supporting Levi, I'm just making sure that none of my friends die in front of me for stupid reasons."

She started to struggle against her bonds, but then Hange and the others landed on the roof and the section commander started to try to reason with her.

"Mikasa please, me reasonable. 90 percent of the scouts have been wiped out, it's just us left, if we lose Erwin we're doomed. We all have people we want to bring back, but sometimes it's best to just let go, for the better of humanity we have to push through."

She calmed down, Edward released her and she began to bawl in Hange's arms. It was the first time she cried like that, out of pure sadness and desperation. I looked away from her and looked at Levi, he was filling the syringe with blue liquid then he threw the empty bottle away. I crawled up the roof and managed to grab his ankle before he could move forwards.

"Captain, have you heard of the ocean? It's a huge expanse of salt water that goes for kilometers, so far that you can't see the other end. Armin always talked about it when we were kids, but when I joined the military, I forgot all about it, I just wanted to murder the ones who ruined my life. But Armin's not like that he-"

But before I could finish, I felt a boot collide with my cheek. I looked up and saw Floch standing above me.

"Shut up! Stop trying to-"

But before he could finish, the captain's foot hit his face his skit on the rood a couple times before looking up to see a pissed of captain.

"I know you are trying to defend your ideals, but that does not give the right to kick a comrade, furthermore a member of the elite squad.  I would advise you to not do that again." he hissed.

Then he turned around to everybody and said:
"Everybody clear the area! I'm going to inject Erwin!"

Connie, with Sasha on his back, left with Jean, followed by Hange who took Mustang, then Mikasa who shot one more painful look at Armin before jumping off. Floch grabbed me and followed the others, I looked at Armin's dying body one more time before I couldn't see it anymore. We got on another roof, and Jean was already crying while cursing over and over again. Connie had put Sasha down and started to sob too. Mikasa cried too again and I just stared at the roof. But then I realised:

Where's Edward?

(Levi's POV)

Once I saw Eren and Floch land on a roof, far away, I looked at the syringe hatefully. For some reason I hated this thing. But then something else caught my attention, the Fullmetal brat was still here, he was holding Bertholdt by the collar and he had a flat expression on his face.

"Why are you still here?" I asked him.

"I want to see what happens." he said plainly.

"What do you think I should do? You're the closest we have to unbiased." I said.

He walked towards me, dragging Bertholdt behind him then he handed him to me. His eyes were dim and I couldn't read what he was thinking.

"I think he can tell you." he said nodding in Erwin's direction.

I turned around and sure enough, the commander's eyes were slightly open and he was smiling painfully at me. I crouched next to him and that's when he said:
"Thank you Levi...."

Then his eyes closed and his breathing slowed down even more. I looked up at the alchemist, he nodded at me, which told me that he knew what I was thinking. Erwin was ready to die, he had accomplished everything he wanted to, bringing him back would just mean more pain for him. I scrambled over the roof and checked Armin's breathing he still was. I firmly injected him, the transformation was quick and once he had become a titan, I left Bertholdt in front of him and Edward created a little dome around us.

Once the hissing noises stopped, the alchemist retracted the dome and immediately went to Armin's side. The boy was human and just seemed unconscious. I shot a flare that I had and the others quickly joined us. Upon seeing their friend, the cadets ran to the blond and cried as they tried to wrap their heads around what was happening.

I looked at all of them but I felt my gaze linger on Eren as he clutched Armin, refusing to let him go, as if the moment he let go, he would disappear again.
