Devon's POV

Flashback.

"Mum." I whined as she combed my hair neatly.

"Everyone's coming Dante. Do you want to embarrass your father? She asked.

" I'm not a kid anymore."

She laughed. "You'll always be my kid Dante."

She squeezed my cheek and I glared at her.

She hit my shoulder and I smiled at her.

"Mum." Leo yelled, jumping into the room and hugging her.

"Sweetheart. How are you?" She asked.

Leo gave me a small smirk. "Mum the cake you made Dante took a huge piece and threatened me with a gun if I touched it. I haven't even gotten to sniff the cake." He whined.

I gaped at Leo.

He had changed the story.

He'd threatened me. I hadn't sniffed the cake.

"Mum he is lying to you." I defended.

Mum stroked my cheek. "We all know that Leo isn't a liar. And while you're also not. You're a bully."

"I'm fucking not." I glared.

"Dante language." She scolded softly but firmly.

Leo flipped me the bird before heading out. I followed him and mum came after us.

"Boys." Dad said and we headed towards him. All traces of our earlier smiles gone.

We walked over to the main hall where other of dad's allies where.

I watched as they talked and laughed with each other.

It was a masquerade dinner because dad reasoned some of his friends might not be friends. So no one was allowed to take off their masks.

Leo headed to the bar and sat down.

I knew he planned to get as wasted as possible.

Someone tapped my shoulder and I looked down.

The girl was wearing a black mask and a black dress.

Her blonde hair was in curls down her face and her eyes where chocolate brown.

"May I help you?" I said.

She grinned.

"Sorry. Was bored. And you look my age. Correct me if I'm wrong but you're 17?"

I grinned. "Pretty close. Still sixteen. Will be seventeen next year."

"Cool. I'm 16 too."

We paused a bit.

"I'm Kylie Lucienne Greene." She stretched her hand out.

"Dante Alimero." I shook it.

We headed back to Leo and we decided to talk.

This girl had a very cunning vibe.

In that small time we spent together, I realized everything she did had an after thought and a consequence.
