Kabanata 40
"What are you talking about?" Dad asked.
He looked at me worriedly.
I nodded my head a bit and gave him an assuring smile. Dad was looking at it intently.
"The cause of the fire isn't faulty wiring, it was due to combustible fuel. Kaya nagkalat kaagad at lumaki ang apoy." Daxel explained.
Dad's brows furrowed. "That's impossible. It was stated on the report from the investigation that it was indeed due to faulty wiring."
"If it was faulty wiring, it would've been enough to be extinguished by the water sprinkler system installed in each house. Mabilis po kaagad kumalat ang apoy bago pa man nagreact 'yong system." Daxel opened a folder to let us see the records. "The sprinkler system was also damaged to the specific house where the fire occurred, based on the time setting it happened."
"So, what are you implying? Someone started and planned it?"
Daxel pursed his lips. "I hired some private investigators for this case, Sir, I apologize for doing it beforehand without telling you."
Daxel was very detailed with the outcome of the investigation.
"There were traces of fuel found near the site where the fire happened." muli siyang naglabas ng panibagong dokumento. "And it was found out that the fuel was similar to the ones that are used in aircraft...Avitech's aircraft specifically."
Nag-angat ng kilay si Dad. "So you mean that the one who sabotaged us is under your company?"
Napatingin ako kay Daxel, he looked at me apologetically.
"Yes..."
"D-Dad! Wala siyang kasalanan! Nadawit lang din siya dito! They were also after him!"
"No, it was our fault. We didn't properly checked the exported fuel.
"Our company will take full responsibility for this case. We will handle the media and make sure that Pontevera will be out of this."
"Pontevera is already involved in this! People could've died! Dad hissed.
"I sincerely apologize, Mr. Pontevera. I will do everything in my power to dismiss this and make sure to clean Pontevera's name." Daxel bowed deeply. He then glanced at me and did the same thing. "I'm sorry, Ms. Pontevera."
Hindi ko alam kung anong sasabihin ko. He looked at me with weary and apologetic eyes.
"Who is the suspect if it was indeed a set-up?" Dad asked.
"We're still looking into it, Mr. Pontevera. I will immediately update you on the progress of the investigation. For now, I will personally clear the situation to the media."
