Jade's POV

I place the last of my shirts in my suitcase and reach around to zip it up. Taking a deep breath in, an excited smile tugs at the corners of my mouth. I take once last look around my familiar charcoal grey walls, dotted with polaroids of my smiling friends at summer camp. The king sized bed in the middle of the room made up perfectly, lined with soft yellow cushions and draped with sheen curtains pinned neatly tied back to the bedposts.

"Jade hun, Naomi's dad is here to pick you up!" My mother's impatient voice echoes up the stairs and bounces off the cream coloured walls of our family home.

"I'm coming mum." I quickly shout back, grabbing my phone and putting it into the back pocket of my jean shorts. I reach down trying to grab my suitcase with one hand, grunting as I struggle to pick it up. Shit. There's no ways it's going to move. I put it back down on the floor, sighing frustratedly, knowing that I may have overpacked. Taking one looking at the bulging suitcase in front of me, I curse. It looks as though it's going to explode any second.

Just as I'm about to shout down to my mum to ask for help, my dad appears at the door with a knowing smile on his face."Need help?" His deep silky voice asks, already knowing the answers.

"Yes please." I smile thankfully and move away from the suitcase. He's wearing a black suit, white button up shirt and a red tie, his familiar old spice cologne fills my room.

When he isn't away on business trips, he's dressing up so that my mum can drag him off to a party or an event in the city. He picks up the suitcase, finding it much easier than when I attempted to and follows me out of my bedroom door. I bounce down the wooden staircase, my dads loud footsteps behind me. When I get to the bottom of the steps I see my mum standing in the kitchen.

She stands in front of one of the many mirrors dotted around the house, applying red lipstick to her plump lips, one of the few things I inherited from her. When we first moved in, she made the interior designers put up at least two mirrors in every room and to be honest, sometimes it comes in handy.

Especially when I can't be bothered to walk upstairs to check what I look like in the bathroom. She's wearing a tight red cocktail dress, holding her phone up to her ear with one hand and applying the makeup with the other. I figure she's getting ready for another party, one filled with middle aged blonde women and rich business men. The parties keep them out of the house practically every night, which leaves me by myself in the house most of the time. That's why I like going to camp during the summer, it means I'm around my friends all day and don't have to deal with wasted parents coming home at three in the morning on a school night. My dad returns from putting the suitcase in the boot of the car and I hug him goodbye. I have to stand on my tip toes as he's much taller than me. I sigh as his wide shoulders pulling me in to a comforting hug. "Got everything you need?" His soft voice asks, he might seem intense to some people, but to me he's home. I'm definitely a lot closer to my dad then my mum, most probably because he isn't too busy for me.

"Yeah, I've got everything." I smile reassuringly. My dad doesn't mind me going away all summer, he just wants me to be safe. I hug once him again and turn to see my mum coming from the kitchen, phone still in hand chatting away to one of her many friends. She turns to my dad and mouths the word 'purse' before motioning upstairs, he sighs and complies heading off back up the stairs.

"Mum I'm going." I say in her direction, hoping to get her attention. She looks at me for the first time, her crystal blue eyes widen as if she didn't even notice I was standing there.

"Of course honey, have a good time. Ring me if there's any cute boys." She says, holding a hand over her phone's speaker and then turning away, rushing back into the kitchen to grab her keys.

I just laugh, "Yeah, I'm still dating Will." I shout down the corridor, just as my dad walks down from the steps, having received my mothers purse.

"Mhmm, sure hun." She mumbles not looking up from what she's doing, my dad joining her in the kitchen. I turn towards the door, giving a one last 'goodbye' down the hall way over my shoulder. I take a quick look around my childhood home and smile, I cannot wait for summer to begin.
