He pulls me towards him quickly, making my body hit his hard chest. His face is inches away from mine, his hands on my waist to keep my balance.
My breath quickens, my throat now completely dry. I feel his firm hands either side of my hips, gripping hard but not too rough.
I look up at him, my vision now clearing slightly. His green eyes staring down at me concerned, his dark hair slightly moving in the warm night time breeze.
My head is spinning, my vision blurry. Without thinking, I lean into his chest, it's firmness underneath me helping to steady my head.
"You saved me," I giggle into his shirt, thinking I imagine it as I feel him tense up slightly.
"Jade-" His dark voice is quite, hesitant, as though he's looking around to see if anyone's watching us.
"You smell so good." I whisper into his chest, the words slipping from my lips before I can stop them.
This time he must actually tense up, I feel his fist as my side clench into a ball, as though he's fighting the urge to grab something.
"Why are you still out here? Where is everyone else?" He sounds on edge, nervous possibly. Why would he be nervous around me?
"They...left," I lean back to look up at him, tilting my head and feeling my hair fall from behind my ear and in front of my face. Scrunching my nose I move it out of my gaze slowly, finding him to be staring down at me, something softer behind his eyes.
"You shouldn't be out here alone, like this." He says quietly, taking what seems like a pitying look at me.
I furrow my brows as he silently judges me, making me out to be a pathetic girl by herself in the middle of the woods. "Don't look at me like that," the spiteful words leave my lips before I can stop them.
His eyebrows rise as though he can't believe what I've just said, his green eyes darkening with something that makes me uneasy. He takes another second to look down at me, his cold hands still on my waist before he clears his throat.
"Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude." His apology doesn't quite meet his tone, but he sounds sincere enough.
"Good." I say slowly, narrowing my eyes up at him, trying to determine whether he's a nice guy at heart, or if he's just going to be trouble this summer.
"I should probably get you back to the others." He says quietly, still holding onto my hips.
"That is a very good idea Leo," I agree with a nod, looking off into the still slightly blurry distance.
I see from the corner of my eye a hint of a smirk across his lips, but it disappears before I can look back up at him. He releases his hands from my side and steps back from me, creating a cool space between us, where the heat from his body once was.
He shoves his hands in his pockets as he watches me quietly. Thinking I can stand up without his help now, I go to step forward. Just as I'm about the put my foot down, I start to topple again.
Leo reaches out to support me, steadying me with his firm hands. Swiftly he loops one arm around my waist. I grab hold of his bicep to help me stand up.
"I don't...usually... drink." I slur and see his mouth turn up into a smirk.
"It's okay, you're just tipsy. Let's get you back to the others." He looks sympathetic and I get a feeling he pities me, my head starts to ache at the thought.
He probably thinks I'm some pathetic light weight, compared to the girls he hangs out with normally.
"You don't think I'm pathetic do you?" I question, sounding even more pathetic.
He guides me through the trees, never letting go of my side. My eyes start to tear up, the heightened emotions from alcohol are draining.
I almost miss his answer, "No, I don't," he laughs, lightly shaking his head.
"I think pathetic is the complete opposite of what you are." He stops walking and looks at me, his eyes are a darker shade of green.
I feel the tears subside and tilt my head to look up at him. "What are you on about?" I scrunch my nose up in confusion. I shake me head warily, it hurts to think.
"Nothing." His deep laugh is now soft as we turn to carry on walking.
We almost reach the edge of the forest, when I have a thought.
"Leo?" I ask quietly looking up at his deep green eyes, something flashes across them, but it's too quick for me to figure out what it means.
"Promise me you'll never let me drink again." I say feeling exhausted.
He just laughs and keeps on walking with me between his arm and his side. After a while his husky voice replies.
"Promise."
